So it is Spain versus Argentina in the final. Sounds like a great game - double OT. The Argentinians handed out an arse whupping to the French judging by the scoreline. Scola is rolling back the clock!
USA followed up loss to France by getting beat by Serbia too......

Can't believe the Americans only scored 7 points in 1 Quarter, reminded me a wee bit of the Welsh in the Trophy last season

livebasketball.tv is just utter garbage. Hasn't made viewing the bits of this tournament that I actually wanted to watch a remotely pleasant experience. One game ran smoothly, everything else has been jerky rubbish that I've quit on before the game ended.

I'd read enough on here and spoken to enough people, so I gave it a miss. Which is a shame when an obsessive is missing the world cup final because they've chosen such a shabby broadcasting platform

All the games were on Eurosport Player.
£40 for the year and ALL Euroleague games, plus all their other sports.

But NBA teams can play zones Connors? The ban on that went out years ago. Some teams do use zones, so I don't agree that should have a big impact. Plus at junior level it's more common so these guys should know how to adapt. The lineup may not work so well as you say, but then that's up to the coach to change the lineup to one that works better, just as they would if the opponent changed what it was doing offensively. And let's not forget the 50+ games and multiple titles and gold's the US has won up to now, dealing with the same problems.
I am certain this is down to chemistry and also pressure. These guys knew anything less than gold would be seen as failure and maybe given most of them joined quite late, that put pressure on that they weren't comfortable with?

Sam. I am well aware of the allowance of what the NBA call zones. They are not really zones though due to the defensive 3 second rule! Zones are commonly used in junior AAU ball are they? You sure about that because what I've read suggests the complete opposite. Now college ball - loads of zone used.....so I guess that explains why so many of these 1 and done dudes cannot really play against it then!
The US generally does not need to worry about zones for the reasons I mentioned in my previous post. They are mega talented. They dominate defensively and run teams off the floor. The few closer games they've had then they throw the ball in to the exact type of player this US team did not have - genuine multiple All Star, scoring champion, best player on the planet type of guys. The sort of guys that you could have 3 players guarding and it really makes no difference because they are that good. Lets not forget they often have about 5 of them on their squads!
And having said all that I have already acknowledged it is only part of the puzzle. Chemistry and pressure definitely played its part. Pop could not adapt because his players could not adapt as they did not have the skill set. IF you rebranded that team USA team GB and they were massive underdogs with no pressure then I am sure they would have done better. They got everyone's A game but they weren't the A team. Double whammy.
Look at Giannis. Going into the tourney nobody could understand how FIBA teams would stop him when seemingly only the NBA champions were able to slow him down in the NBA. Well look at his numbers and his performances. They stuck a 39 year old 6ft4 vet on him to rough him up (more physical FIBA) and then collapsed everyone else into a wall in front of him (no defensive 3 seconds rule in FIBA) and said "shoot over us then" and he and his Greek compatriots were not able to do so.

Steph's back. And when other all-stars follow, no one will care what kind of zone anyone's playing

Yup - I don't think anyone doubts that when the USA bring their best then its a fight for second place amongst the rest!
Guys like Curry are that good that I'm pretty sure had he been inserted into the recent team for either Walker or Mitchell it may well have been enough.

This is what happened after 2006,top stars took it personally that they sat out and other guys didn't keep the reputation up for them, so they came back. If course, Collangelo reckons he'll remember who opted out this time. I'm sure he'll be turning the likes of Steph down next year then!
