Was shocked to read this on Twitter earlier - not that the offer came, but I’d assumed Fab was an Eagle for at least one more season. Incredible opportunity for him, and so well deserved after all he’s given to the game, I’m truly delighted for him. Thanks for all the memories, and best of luck to you on the biggest stage in the sport.
Agree with the comments about retiring the shirt and arranging a testimonial game in due course. (Maybe Fab could bring the Raptors 905 team to the ECA for a visit?) Will think about a successor another day.

Well you’re wrong because you totally dismissed Fabs coaching ability and say Robs a better coach but who’s now coaching in the NBA? Still naive

Thanks Fab you are a legend and will always be an eagle and welcome in the toon. 18 of the 21 years I have been watching the eagles you have been on the team. It will be strange not seeing you play again but you have got a great opportunity in the NBA. Well done.

Still naive Difference for me is the good eagles teams you feared playing especially Thomson Smith Defoe Jones they would turn up beat you in the first quater Then keep the foot on your throat for 40 minutes, whereas I feel the riders sides who have been dominant haven't been no where near as talented but the depth they have it's just phenominal so they can play hard knowing they have 2 or 3 replacements on the bench who are just as good!!

Well done Fab, you've been truly fabulous, and we'll all miss you. I am sure everyone in the BBL, wishes you all the very best for the future. It’s good to be able to just repeat Mansfield Mike’s magnanimous tribute to a guy who has invested everything in building Newcastle both on and off court for a staggering 18 years. We will miss him but Fab richly deserves his chance in the NBA. He will always be welcome back in Newcastle. Im heartened that most right- minded folk appreciate both Fab’s commitment and achievements as a player and coach although predictably there are one or two exceptions. Nobody is perfect, least of all Fab, but his achievements speak for themselves and will continue to do so for many years.

Well that's a shock. I thought if he was going to leave for the NBA that would have been announced weeks ago. Feel a bit sorry for the fans because I know how devastated I'd be if it was announced today that Rob was leaving and not coaching us next season.
Fab deserves all the praise heaped upon him by fans on this forum. Without him Riders wouldn't be where they've been for the last few seasons. His Eagles team set the benchmark very high and for a very long time nobody could get near them. Rob's focus on defence, defence and defence is straight out of the Fab coaching manual. Ironically, Riders beat Eagles at their own game but it took a HELL of a struggle to achieve that.
Fab will be missed by fans across the BBL and I wish him all the best for a great future in Canada with his new coaching role. What a great opportunity. He earned it.

Show me the bookie and I’ll put a fiver on INF. The only problem is which Riders players he’d then fixate on getting injured too often ?

Lets face it, this was the only way he was ever going to get a job in the NBA, a pity appointment from the coach who brought him to the BBL. Finch and Nurse had to do it the hard way grafting through international ball, coaching in Europe and the D league. Donewald and Flournoy got on the bench through contacts. Pity really, I'll miss watching him brick open jumpers and turning the ball over in the back court Never mind!

A shame for Eagles but brilliant news for him. Certainly an opportunity that needed to be grabbed with both hands! Timing is bad from an Eagles perspective but pretty sure that would not have been on the Raps radar. I hope he prospers. I have a feeling that he will not forget where he cut his teeth as a coach and Eagles may still benefit from his association with them yet.
Let's hope his successor is equally successful!

Thank you Fab for all of your contributions and services to the sport in GB.
Rightly recognised as an MBE, he truly changed the landscape of the game in our country, especially in the NE.
Good luck to him in his NBA adventure, what an opportunity and achievement! Hopefully the Eagles retire the number 20 in his honour.
All the best and thanks for all the memories!

Just caught up with this. Sincere congratulations and thanks to Fab. His contribution to basketball in the UK has been immense. A great opponent and, for Eagles and us all, a loss. I wish him every success.
