All games are at the place of my dreams - Essex Sports Arena - over the weekend. While I kinda' like the idea of a launch weekend, I'm not sure a midday Friday tip-offs is the way to go.
I also think there's a third set of games on Sunday.

Anyone coming to any of this launch weekend? I might be heading out there on Sunday, not that it looks like a particularly fun place to get in and out of on a Sunday by public transport. Always feel a little guilty that I spend so much time following women's basketball but barely see any of the UK game, so maybe this'll be the start of me paying more attention this year.

All games live on the WBBL YouTube channel. Bet you that doesn't carry on all season.
Some of them can't even get statisticians sorted, let alone someone to stream games on the regular.

Of course not. It’s only because all this weekend’s games are being played at the University of Essex. Going forward I’d generally only expect WBBL games to be live streamed if they’re being played at a BBL venue where the new robocam technology has been installed (which I suspect isn’t many).

WBBL Trophy - Fridays Game Report
The opening game day of the 2019-20 season is in the books after an entertaining start to the Betty Codona WBBL Trophy, which saw four contests take place in one venue at the University of Essex.
Nottingham Wildcats had the honour of collecting the first victory of the new campaign as they eased past BA London Lions 70-53. There was a sense of deja vu for fans as last year’s standout duo Jasmine Joyner and Chelsey Shumpert picked up where they left off. The former hit top gear with a spectacular 22 points, 12 boards and four blocks, while Shumpert weighed in with 23 points and 6 assists. Lions’ debutante Melita Emmanuel-Carr racked up an eye-catching 18 points.
There was no joy for the host club Essex Rebels who were outlasted 78-66 by last season’s Trophy Finalists Durham Palatinates. It was the new Palatinates recruits who did the business as Dee Hayward harvested 21 points, while Kara Elderkin showed why her summer move from north-east rivals Newcastle was so important after delivering a monumental 17 points and 21 rebounds. Meanwhile Abby Rendle replied with 22 points for Rebels on her WBBL debut.
Trophy holders Leicester Riders showed they will not be giving up their prized silverware in a hurry after they underlined their depth with a crushing 90-58 victory against Oaklands Wolves. Ella Clark was terrific with a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds, while four of her teammates also returned double-digits – led by 19 from Sara Hinriksdottir. From a losing perspective, Anneke Schlueter top-scored for Wolves with 19 points.
In the last game of the day, Sevenoaks Suns reiterated why they are a powerhouse franchise as they swept aside Caledonia Pride 81-60. The familiar duo of Cat Carr and Ta’Yani Clark went to work, with Carr adding 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Clark had an all-action 11 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.
Betty Codona WBBL Trophy (all games)
BA London Lions 50-73 Nottingham Wildcats (10-21, 30-38, 40-58) (Lions – Emmanuel-Carr 18, Velasquez 13, Ivanova 9; Wildcats – Shumpert 23, Joyner 22, Costa 8)
Oaklands Wolves 58-90 Leicester Riders (17-23, 39-46, 49-67) (Wolves – Schlueter 19, Harrison 16, Boros 6; Hinriksdottir 19, Oliver 18, Clark 15)
Essex Rebels 66-78 Durham Palatinates (15-16, 35-35, 54-56) (Rebels – Rendle 22, Ward 19, Shaxon 10; Palatinates – Hayward 21, MacDonald 19, Elderkin 17)
Sevenoaks Suns 81-60 Caledonia Pride (24-8, 40-25, 64-33) (Suns – Carr 17, Monakana 12, Clark 11, Ofomata 11; Pride Fouraki 18, Storie 10, Doherty 8)

Ooh, Ella Clark's playing basketball again? Thought she'd quit in favour of netball. A decent season could easily put her back in the GB conversation.

WBBL Trophy - Saturdays Game Report
A trio of clubs are celebrating being just one step away from reaching a showpiece Final during the 2019-20 season after Nottingham Wildcats, Leicester Riders and Durham Palatinates all reached the last four of the Betty Codona WBBL Trophy.
The trio took their tickets for the Semi-Finals by going 2-0 at opening weekend in the competition, on what proved to be another eventful day at the University of Essex.
Durham Palatinates grabbed the headlines as they shutdown Petermans Sheffield Hatters 60-50 to suggest they are bidding to go one better in the Trophy after having to settle for runners-up last season. Betsy MacDonald filled the highlights reel and top scored with 15 points as Durham excelled defensively in the last 15 minutes of the contest.
Trophy holders Leicester Riders continued their nice start to the new campaign by smashing their way past Cardiff Met Archers 75-43. Brea Elmore became the first WBBL player of the season to dish up double-digits in assists after handing out 10, while she also claimed as many boards. Kate Oliver shone brightly for Riders as well after contributing 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Nottingham Wildcats took their seat with an impressive 69-53 triumph against Manchester Mystics. Once again it was the seemingly unstoppable Jasmine Joyner who took centre stage with a stellar 22 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.
Meanwhile Newcastle Eagles gave themselves a shot at grabbing the last spot in the Semi-Finals by easing past Caledonia Pride 73-48 to start their season on the front foot. Lisa Koop starred with 16 points and 13 boards, while Georgia Ohrdorf also got a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Eagles will now face Sevenoaks Suns on Sunday, with the winner joining Wildcats, Palatinates and Riders in the next stage.

Shutdown isn't a word.
Was thinking of going to watch Wolves tomorrow but not for a dead rubber. Will definitely watch them at some point this year, though.

Having attended the Saturday fixtures I was very impressed with the Essex Uni arena. Concerning how many paying fans there actually were is questionable. Though for £4 you could watch 4 games throughout the whole day.
Durham looked decent & could cause some of the title contenders problems over the season. It looks like Nottingham Wildcats could be back up & challenging at the top again after their win against Manchester Mystics, which had a few controversial decisions by the refs which lead to Jeff Jones being sent to the locker room.
The opening weekend event was also used to launch Basketball England's All Girls Basketball & it was interesting to hear Basketball England CEO Stewart Kellett state that the women's GB team's Eurobasket campaign was done on a budget of £69k
Concerning streams for future matches. Leicester Riders streamed most if not all of their home fixtures on Facebook & Sevenoaks starting to stream theirs on YouTube.

The WBBL Trophy Semi-Finals will feature Sevenoaks Suns after they took the last available spot on offer during the last day of action at the University of Essex.

The Betty Codona WBBL Trophy Semi-Finals will take place on a one-legged basis and the draw will be made during the coming weeks after the first phase of the WBBL Cup has also concluded.
