Sharks when i started following the keague were a top team. Great plagers, The squads the last couple of seasons wouldn't even be able to lace the shoes of those squads back then let alone start on court. I really respect your passion and care for your club but you've got to think accepting the same each year or a decline isn't what club like sharks should be accepting. Yes, we once had a great team, I go further enough back to see us win the league. Yes, I'm disappointed in our current plight. I just don't see any benefits in coming on here and slagging them off, or even worse keeping away; what's that going to achieve? Even lower income? Smaller crowds; nothing good So I back my team, I support it come rain or shine. Here's one for IRF. If we have become so poor but yet can achieve 4th in the league and reach finals on regular occasions, how bad is the league? I've not yet accepted that there was only 200 at the game yesterday and wont until I either have an opportunity to count the crowd or get official confirmation. Why not believe official figures? I'm a simple person and like things simple. Last week the arena looked half full, it holds 1400ish. Simply half of 1400 is 700. No need for counting. Official figure; 709 I commend you and your positivity Dyb Dyb. My negativity does not come from a place that I enjoy. I just hope that, Atiba gets sacked, or not retained one year. I've said it many times, a new pair of eyes might have a different recruitment philosophy and better contacts etc. Again, I've said this before, Einstein said the definition of insanity is to keep making the same mistakes and expecting different results. Retaining Atiba every year is a mistake. Whilever he is coach, the on court product is not going to improve and fans will not return. This is obvious to see imo. Indisputable

Is it not that sharks have kept the same product and game night experience for too long. Looks very dated and their online presence is one of the worst too. All this is before you look at the on court roster and the lack of positivity towards coach atiba Can I ask for feedback on the online presence? Why do you think it is one of the worst? There are several of us volunteering on this and we are always trying to improve - genuine question!

I can't argue that a new manager; a new set of eyes can/will see things differently. Will have different ideas, contacts etc.
However who's to know what sort of budget they have to work in? It doesn't matter who the manager is, if they all have to shop in PoundLand, you're going to get a team full of Poundland players.
Ideas, plays may be different, but you're looking at a different skill set.
We as fans don't know the restraints that anyone in the club are working within, what I am certain of, Atiba and the management will be working as hard as they can and will hurt as much as the next man when things go wrong.
Maybe after a number of years at the helm for the same manager, it might be time for a change? Grass greener springs into mind though.
What I do think is that it is obvious that they are people out there that don't want Atiba as manager and it doesn't matter what I say, or suggest, they will not change their minds.
Fair enough, if this is based on whether you don't like what he is doing on court, perhaps even recruitment, then Ok, go with it. However, I'm also aware that there are other reasons that lay much deeper. That is where I have problems with the negativity. If they are so against Atiba and the club, for what ever reasons, take it out with them, not posting stuff on here. As I said earlier, I have spoken to people who are put off coming on here because of the constant negativity. They will even ask me, "does so and so still say this", "does so and so still go on"? "I'll not bother then".
They just might be a few more Shark fans out there with different views.

Social media and engagement is now a full time job even in the bbl it should be part of someines paid remit. Look at the content riders and flyers do or even look at what content is coming out of nba media days and copy it.

Looks to be, at most, 200 fans there, maybe more like 150. Commend the fans that have gone. Such a shame. I probably should go more, but I just have such apathy now. You can tell it wasn't an inspiring game, most or the posts are about how many people were exactly there. When I go I'm too busy watching the game to sit and count e dry person there to get an accurate figure, people have far too much time on their hands. On the other hand the entertainment in the breaks wasn't awe-inspiring either. Phoenix's are brilliant either before someone comments.

I did go to the game, not taking a lot of notice of the crowd, as I said earlier, I'm sat at the front so wont get a good prospective. I have tried bringing the thread back to the game whilst trying to reply to the posts regarding attendance etc. perhaps in hindsight too much. I have however watched a few minutes of the 1st q back and thought that the camera for the main only shows the first few rows of seats and very rarely goes all the way back to the rear, very difficult to judge how many seats are taken. Having said that, I think it is clear that there isn't as many as there was the week before. As for the game. I enjoyed it and I think Nix hung around enough to make it an interesting game. Perhaps not inspiring when you lose by 15 to a team that is so poor and doing so badly and will struggle to get into the play offs? I must admit the entertainment isn't great at all. I'm not one for that sort of dancing any how so it's not for my taste at all. It is one area where we could definitely improve.

I don’t believe the attendance numbers to be frank. Just be using my eyes and counting I can see the there was comfortably less than 300 there tonight. Yup, absolutely correct, 700 is la la land. In terms of the game, very poor standard, but you can only beat what's put in front of you, and that's what we did. Will give the new guy a few more games first before commenting too much, but he looked poor tonight.

Will give the new guy a few more games first before commenting too much, but he looked poor tonight. 700 (709) was the figure given for the giants game of which I guessed Ponds Forge looked a little over half full, throwing in the VIPs on the far side, I'd say that's not far off. I've watched a few minutes back of the 1st q of the Nix game and I couldn't begin to count how many were in the crowd, hats off if you have managed it. For me, the camera is on the first few rows too much and rarely goes all the way to the back row. Admittedly you can see enough to be able to say that there isn't as many as in the giants game, but actually count??? I'd maybe take 150ish off from the giant's figure. I have had the odd chat with a few people that were at the game and Sunday is proving a bit tricky, or perhaps its the tip off late on a Sunday afternoon that is awkward? After both games we've tried eating before and after the game. Not sure which is the way to go yet. I'm sure others will have these sort of problems too. Yes. Cashew looked a little out of place. Almost trying too hard, he only landed a few days before the game. Hopefully a weeks practice with his team mates might help before we play the Rocks.

We are reading on here that sharks are struggling to get 700ish people to games. On facebook roughly 2000 followers? What are sharks doing to increase their social media reach? Imo good social media content and consistency brings publicity therefore followers leading to a larger reach leading to more bums on seats

Just to further back my point. The guy iain Marshall on twitter hss shared the amount of followers by club. Sharks are 10th.
Im not one wanting to put fown folk who volunteer. Ive done it. However teams should be looking at this as an easy way to reach fans. Paid ads aren't a bad wsy to start to build a following. How many of sheffields 2900ish fans are actually sheffield based and are actually shark supporters

The problem we’ve had with Facebook is that there was a supporters group long before the club had a Facebook page, hence the lower number of followers. We now routinely ask people to follow the Club Facebook page. We have grown the twitter following quite a bit. I don’t disagree that having paid staff like Joe at the Riders and Joel at Bristol improves the content - their work is outstanding. But those aren’t the circumstances at the Sharks. We work hard with what we’ve got. Our content goes out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the club website and we partner with 2 local radio stations and the local press. Sorry to anyone who thinks we’re the worst - it’s not for lack of effort I can assure you.

A few points to make. I agree with Colicab apathy is a killer. The organisation need to find a way of breaking the apathy to try and get some of the missing regulars back. Why not be proactive and pick up contact some of those people to find out the reason they didn’t renew their season tickets. I’m pretty sure they would be able to pull information from their database on those people who had season tickets for 5 or more years. Sheffield is a major city with two big universities. Surely there has got to be a way of tapping into some potential fans right there especially with the move to the city centre. Also why not sell tickets in bundles for a reduced price? Personally I don’t think the season ticket model works in the UK basketball market.
I actually think the social media content is pretty good Billy. I think the comment was more aimed at how do you grow that. Again why not use some resources on our doorstep contact some of the other pro sports teams in Sheffield. Find out how they work. Get some advice. I’m 100% sure one of them would be happy to give some insight. Or even speak to the Universities.
Playing wise. It’s hard to see how far this team can go at the minute with Cashaw only just arriving etc. I’ll reserve judgement until 10 games in. Need to not be starting Marko though. Doesn’t do anything for the apathy that has already set in for many.

Just following on...
How do we know, not know that the organisation are hitting people/season ticket holders that have left? I'm not saying they have or not, just saying how do we know? That's unless you are one of these and you haven't had anything of course.
Cashew only landed a few days before the Cheshire game and we're still waiting for a player to 'come back' from injury. 'Come back' as in he's not played yet, picking up an injury pre season.
I'm sure as these two find their places within the team, maybe even as starters, certainly well within and main players in the rotation; Backovics place in the team will drop down from starting and to the bench.
It was students fresher week leading upto the cheshire game and media was offering student tickets at £4, I retweeted, liked, resent on Twitter and Facebook. Not sure how many students took up the offer? NB a lot are chinese students.
As I said earlier, the sharks are trying.

Yeah I had a season ticket along with 2 other people from 1995 - 2015. Couldn’t make a lot of the Friday games so gave it up. Still go to games but can’t commit to a season ticket at the minute. 99% sure they won’t have contacted people. To entice people back is a long process. Much like when an audience switches off from a tv programme something needs to radically change to peak that interest again. For me there just seems to be a lack of direction and a lack of forward planning to some degree. All you get is the odd soundbite from those in charge. Nothing substantial. Would be nice if they could identify a blueprint for the future both on and off the court. Give the fans something to cling on to and the club something to aim for.

Agree with above.
There is no plan at all to change anything. The Sharks used to be one of the best supported teams in the league - in the top 3 most years between the mid 90s and mid 2000 but the last 10 years it has steadily declined.
The board has not changed. The coach had not changed. The game night entertainment has not changed. The marketing has not changed.
The Sharks surely need to do something different?
If your customers are not coming anymore and are declining every year, you have to take action. Either they are not bothered and happy to have 300-350 people come through the door - dont care what others say above - it was no more than 300-350 that attended that Cheshire game. It was nowhere near half full. Not even a third full really.
The new arena plans seem to be in tatters - new developments at Legacy PArk suggest they wont wait for the Sharks anymore as new investors/developments are moving in there all the time. The Sharks have been trying to raise the funds and clearly cannot do it. It is sad but that is reality.
I have criticised Lyons and not sure bringing back core of poor players most years is helping but it goes wider than this. How have we cone from 1,000-1,200 crowds to 350 in 15 years? That has to be a major concern. The social media/website/advertising is really poor.
To me the amount of money they make from tickets must have little affect - not even sure it will pay SiV for the rent of Ponds Forge. They would be better slashing the prices to £10 and £5 - or saying even £10 for an adult and a free kid can go. Try something different. They are not attracting new fans and the product on the court and off it (the game night stuff) is appalling. Listening to Here We go and two youngsters dancing at time outs is embarrasing.
It is cringeworthy really.
As you say there is no real clear direction - they just wheel out the same tired stuff on and off the court.
Love to see them get some of the old guard back involved - give Todd Cauthorn or Iain McKinney the coaching job. Inject some passion.
In short they have to do something the next season or so or I fear the Sharks will fold. The Steelers Ice Hockey team regularly get big crowds at the Arena - often 2-3,000 every week. They have managed to maintain this over the years with solid marketing, mostly great product and fan engagement.
It is not just about money - many clubs of a comparable size really in terms of budget etc still get better crowds and do a better job of everything.
Not sure anything can change unless we have new blood on the board - as I have been banging this drum for 3-4 years and nothing ever changes. Sad really.

Official numbers for the giants game were produced and scoffed at by people who preferred to count seats on TV. I said at the time (giants game) that Ponds Forge looked half full and after the Phoenix game that it looked like there were less there than at the Giants game, but only 250-300? Hard to say watching TV. You'd have to be inside the organisation to be able to say there is a plan or not. It's simply guess work at the best otherwise. Admittedly, the same organisation can be criticised for not been open or making public any plans or such thinking. Again, I repeatedly say, I cant see where keeping away helps the club. More bums on seats equals more income and perhaps better entertainment. I don't like the type of dancing any how, not my cup of tea at all. Give me more of the rockettes any time, but surely that comes at a cost. If we could afford the rockettes, perhaps we'd also have a budget for a better squad? While I'm at it. There's obviously criticism for the numbers at shark's games and I've read criticism for the lessening numbers of sharks fans travelling away. However, I'll throw this out as a honest question. Where was the away support for the 2 games at Ponds Forge? Lots and lots of seats, in fact almost the full block empty behind the Nix bench. I can remember Nix being well supported.

You will NEVER convince me that Atiba is the right man to lead the Sharks. I don’t really have a great deal of issues with the owners. I know they are trying their best, they need to revamp the game night. Hearing “Here we Go” last night was just utterly cringeworthy, it’s not a children’s birthday party. But that’s an easy one to solve, just get better music or someone else to do it. But....they need to let Atiba go ASAP. His lack of success would not be accepted in football or most other sports. I imagine you’d feel differently obviously if you were closely involved in the team.
