It’s been based on the index score for a few seasons now. So why should it be ay different?

These are gunna be **** all year because they're based purely off of index scores. What do you suggest that it should be based on? Actual impactful performance and real factual numbers, not an equation.
Basically a player like Jordan Williams who put up a near triple-double against the league champions, had no chance because he passed the ball a lot (nine assists). An assist isn't worth as much to an index score as a made basket despite the same points being added onto a scoreboard.
Then Gentrey Thomas who had an index score of 31 when the lowest in the team of the week was 32. Basically saying that, if he'd just been fouled on one of his made baskets and made the free throw, then he'd be worthy just for drawing one extra foul.
Then there are offensive rebounds which are huge in getting second chance points but are worth the same to the rating as a completely unchallenged, defensive rebound. If someone grabs 5 offensive, and another player grabs 5 unchallenged defensive boards that another player would have gotten anyway if they weren't stood there, they each get the same rating from those two scenarios.
It's pretty stupid.
