Sorry so it was. Cant have left that much of an impression....
Nah same point applies. How he didn't react in that situation I'll never know.
Yeah I would've gone nuts Martelle is probably the most laid back guy (sometimes to his detriment) I've ever played with. Literally never seen him angry on or off the court.

Watching the Brighton Bears coach go absolutely nuts at Mike Shaft during a game at the Sheffield arena (the guys name escapes me, but it was the year Wil Johnson played for the Bears and we beat them all 7 times we played them), accusing him of announcing a call before the ref had blown it. Something of that nature. Anyway it got to the stage where the guy got so mad that he marched over to Shaft, took the microphone out of his hand and dismantled it into its various constituent components and threw it on the ground. Mike then wandered over to the table, picked up another mic and carried on commentating, which drew the biggest cheer of the night from the home fans Then of course there was the time that Justin Phoenix punched Rico Alderson square in the face as hard as he could at Ponds Forge - got himself suspended of course, but the crowd gave him a standing ovation (Rico was a league wide detested player for the uninitiated on here) and I believe the Sharks office had more then a few requests to see the footage of the incident in question, for their own sense of satisfaction! That's not so much a strange story, but enormously fun nonetheless!

Justin Phoenix breaking the record for the longest made shot at the Sheffield Arena.
Also Justin Phoenix, the most mild mannered player I've ever seen, punching Rico Alderson in the mouth and knocking him to the floor.

Wasn't Rico involved in the very very short game at Chester against the Jets a long time ago? Should this thread be renamed " Incidents involving Rico?"

Yes. Chester Jets v Derby Storm. I think it lasted 28 seconds, and ended with a full-scale brawl and a female Jets physio nursing a broken jaw. Rico & Yorick both went on to have a season with Leopards (not together) and when we went to the Northgate the atmosphere was absolutely toxic. Someone really old should know this

Justin Phoenix breaking the record for the longest made shot at the Sheffield Arena. How on earth did I forget that!! His first attempt from what I remember. Hadn't Ian McKinney broken a similar record at Ponds Forge the week before?

It's possible Mike was engaging in sarcasm Doubt it, I'm sure the Derby fans thought he was great, he was part of an amazing (but underachieving) team, this highlight reel from his season really brings back memories:

Since we're reminiscing, and seem to be thinking Derby .... who remembers Rod Gregoire, wasn't with us for long, but what an exciting player.

Hadn't Ian McKinney broken a similar record at Ponds Forge the week before? Iain McKinney did have the previous record but I don't recall it being at PF the week before. But yeah Phoenix hit it on his first attempt from way behind the other basket.

Jeez ... Where to start
Balls bouncing off roof beams and sometimes getting stuck in the rafters. Seeing players smoking before & after games ( not sure what, but it certainly made them happy !!) Roger putting on his jacket and nearly walking off court at a Tigers game due to abuse from a certain Eagles fan. Watching Lions in a shopping centre and then a warehouse (props to Vince for doing that)
Ahhh!! ... them Halcyon days

Balls bouncing off roof beams and sometimes getting stuck in the rafters. Might that be a certain old school Leicester venue perchance?

I've never seen that video. Since Derby Storm died, I've never supported another team. I couldn't... Motorways was packed every week. On paper Nate, Joel, Yorick, Rico and big Mo Robinson didn't seem like it would be as good as it was but Bob D was a coach and a half. After the Uniball Final, Bob took Suzanne Dando out for a meal but the team thought it would be funny to hate crash his date!!! We were winning that final at half time u till we ran out of legs missing Rico and Yorick.

Hadn't Ian McKinney broken a similar record at Ponds Forge the week before? McKinney was holding the record at the time, but think it was from a year earlier. He was going to get the full 15 minutes allocated by Guiness World Records but they changed so every Sharks player had one shot each - so that's why Justin only had one shot. Game was at the arena, you'd just beaten Derby (our last season, wasn't difficult that year) and there 3 to 4 thousand there. No idea if that record still exists?
