So putting everything else to one side for a moment, what did everyone think of Ovie Soko? I know it’s hard to judge a player on just a single game, and their first game at that, but I’d say he’s a solid player and a very good signing. Based on yesterday’s performance I’d say he’s on the same level as Robinson and Peel, but in all honestly not necessarily any better than them. Which is fine, great in fact. Lions have been too reliant on Robinson and Peel so far this season, so to have another player of their level should do very good things for the team. My only reservation is that if the rumours of what Lions are paying him (directly and via any commission type deals) are true then I think we should be expecting more from him. But like I said, it was just his first game. Remember its his first basketball game for god knows how long, and that he's not in game shape having (probably) not trained as hard as he has in the past for a good 6 months now. Got 17 and 13.
Depending on what his other commitments allows, when he's back in game shape he'll be destroying this league.
If he's playing every game from now on then I'm sure Lions will be contenders for the league again. If he's playing stop start games then they will struggle as that will be very disruptive for them. The unknown new poster on here suggests he will be picking and choosing games from now on. But has anything official been said by either the club or player on that?

You don’t have an import playing 6 minutes. Dijon was a good fit at Phoenix. I had my doubts about him fitting st lions with Ovid joining he obviously doesn’t Shame nice lad depends how often Ovie will be playing though

I think his conditioning is key too - he cant (as I think some have suggested he might) just get given a playbook and turn up and play games (even if its every game) - he has to train. I mean, you'll probably get the 17 and 13 type of output from him week in week out if he doesn't (he is that good irrespective of what casual NBA fans turn up and say), but you wont get the kind of chemistry that you will if hes on it 100% of the time.
I don't think theres anything official but I think its generally accepted that he's not going to be around all the time. We could all be wrong of course!

I'm expecting the stop start approach and if so that's like having a key player injured every other game etc And that's just for matches let alone training. I've already assumed he will miss training a lot as a given. I wonder how much he actually trained with the team last week in the lead up to the game? I'm not doubting he's training hard on his own wherever he might be on any given day

Soko has been training with Lions for a few weeks now, so I think there’s more commitment there than some are suggesting. But I do have my doubts whether he’ll be attending every training session and every game. I know I’m probably being harsh evaluating him on just his first performance, but for what he’s (allegedly) costing Lions I was expecting more than what Robinson and Peel are already delivering. If he continues at the same level as yesterday I think Robinson and Peel might be asking why he’s getting paid so much more than them! I suppose he did bring in an extra 1,000+ in ticket revenue though. It’ll be interesting to see how/if the situation develops over the season.

Ovie has been training with them a fair amount but game time is vastly different, it will take a few games for him to fully integrate into the team & for the team to fully bring the best out of him.
Will he play every game, probably not but I believe he'll play the vast majority of games, I think there was already an announcement that he was going to be missing one game over the Christmas period.
Obviously there are people who are desperate for this to fail for a variety of reasons and will focus on any negative they can find, but I really think we should be focusing on the positives of having a player as good as Ovie in the league.

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of the demographic of the larger crowd on Sunday. I was expecting an influx of mostly teenage girls wanting to see the guy from Love Island, but actually it was quite a mixed bunch. Which gives me some hope that at some of them may return at least somewhat regularly. Also, because I don’t believe the extra crowd were all Love Island fans, and because Ovie Soko isn’t that well know outside hardcore basketball fans, it gives me hope that when the Lions marketing team really set their efforts on promoting a game it is possible to get a very good crowd to attend.
