Bigz Isnt that the case with all the best point guards at all teams? Eagles without Fletch, Lions without Robinson - God knows what happens to them as well when they are injured? One big difference with Riders is we are proven at winning leagues several times now without great point guards in the squad full stop Number one I'm hoping he doesn't get injured of course. But our fallback is that we will win more games without our PG than the others will IMO We've won better leagues than this season with Douse and Lascelles running the show ps the rumour is we may have some more creativity on its way in as well! Is Rundles coming back or Nims? 🤣🤔 Ha ha....who would you prefer it to be?

Bigz is correct about us needing another decent PG though - everything goes pretty flat once Cartwright is rested. Of course, Lascelles would normally fill those minutes but he can't atm.

Riders look worryingly uncreative without Cartwright - god knows what happens if he gets injured. 23 assists last night as a team - 17 of them came from him. PJC and Mockford could well be the most exciting back court in the league this season as well when they're on the kind of form they were last night. You ad one hell of a front court and Bernadini who dropped in as pointvwhen it was tough

On what basis are people believing that the BBL is so down on quality this year? Last season was our worst for a while and we were still the only team that got near Lions. We walked the league in 2017/18 with a team that had precious little at the PG or C positions and two Americans who I don't think are even playing professionally now. Robertson certainly isn't and TrayVonn has yet to make an appearance for the Luxembourg side he's supposedly part of. Doesn't say much about the strength and depth of the league the past couple of seasons in my view. Not convinced the competition was particularly fierce in 2016/17 either. So who are all these really good teams from recent seasons that I've apparently forgot about? I actually think that on paper, the top half of the BBL looks stronger this year than it has done for ages.
I do agree we could use another guard. No one has suggested this would be necessary but if we had to release Walker to facilitate the move, I'd have no qualms about that. If he is definitely out for the season I still don't really understand why we're holding onto him.

I suspect what we were told about him being out for the whole season may prove to be overly pessimistic - he was kitted up the other day.

PJC - 10. With an index of 40 that was as complete a performance as I've seen in the BBL, particularly as his 2 steals and a forced turnover in OT won the game for the Nix. Absolutely terrorised Scott when he came on for Cartwright, which meant they couldn't give him a rest. Flannigan - 4. Slight improvement, particularly on the glass. That said, he's still not performing at the level expected of an import. If we're really serious about making a splash this year, we'll need a lot more from him. Sayers - 3. Looks out of sorts, a couple of poor passes and 0/2 from the field. This isn't the same Louis we saw perform so well in the Cup. Dizzy - 8. A bundle of energy, he's always been a defensive live-wire and this season has added rebounding and an offensive threat. Most improved player anyone? Mockford - 9. An offensive weapon, his quick release 3 was a constant threat. Deceptively quick, must be a nightmare to guard! Ochereobia - 7. Another solid performance from big Mike, unlucky to foul out. Hayes - 7. Much better this week, shot the ball well, defended gamely against the bigger Riders forwards and hit the boards. Coach Thomas - 6. We looked more complete this week and thought he made some astute decisions with timeouts when we were struggling. Our offense is still too heavily reliant on PJC / Mockford in half-court, we could do with a couple of other options. He seems to do a great job of getting the team fired up when we're playing top teams, it'll be interesting to see if we can do the same for some less glamorous games / away games throughout the season.
Overall - 8. A great performance to claw back a 10 point deficit against the Riders. If PJC / Mockford show up to the extent they did on Sunday, we play defence and our forwards hit the boards, we're a match for anyone. Worth noting that we're still short of Cilo and Mouliom, so this is only 75% of the Nix team for the season. Final shoutout to the EPSV crowd, the atmosphere was electric!

Ive seen it time and again last few seasons. We get beaten by a team early season but when it counts later in the season we come back and beat that same team with something to spare. Only Lions have stopped us doing that in the last few years when it comes to the league at least. So my question is - have you just had your Riders moment of glory this season ? Or can your coach improve you and take your team forward from there? I know Rob will take Riders forward from that result and we will improve from the defeat Will your team do the same and improve from the win? That's my genuine question to you?

Since then Nix have beaten them twice.
So my genuine question to you is, and I know this may make heads fall off because no other coach in the league is capable of actually learning anything ever so sit down and strap in, but is it possible that Ben Thomas actually improved from a defeat to beat the Riders?

The cup games at start of season were Micky Mouse friendly type games that don't count Bigz You know that deep down? I take losing to Nix at the weekend seriously because it matters The question is does it matter because it harms Riders chances against other teams in winning the league or does it matter because Nix are going to go on and build from it themselves It's a genuine question. Do Nix and their coach have what it takes to use this and get better or is this as good as it gets for them (I guess I'm asking the same question that the blog site is asking elsewhere in the thread) Me personally I think we will learn from the defeat and next time we play NIx (when it matters again) we will get the upper hand. For sure if Nix don't build from it we will

Beat me to it - fact Nix bounced back from defeat against Riders early in season following it up with victory away then at home makes this question look like sour grapes. Im sure Rob will respond with the humility we all know and love. No doubt our lack of numbers will come back to bite us later in the season, I think we need to follow up a good start with at least 1 win on the road this coming weekend.

Add in I don't think Flanagan lasts more than another month unless he seriously steps up.
Plus Sayers is in a slump.
There's more than enough potential there. And these guys wont be your biggest threat this season either.

Bottom line is until Leicester get another creative player in the team, when Cartwright gets outplayed they're going to struggle.
