Are the baskets bigger in Solent? They are making it look easy. They are all playing great! They need to save some of this for the Final!! No they don’t 😝 Wow How good would it be if Solent beat Eagles in the final!! I so hope eagles make that final now!! It's written in the stars!!

Starting to get worried about winning the trophy now. Beating Eagles by 9 + in the second leg isn't that big of a job, taking on Solent in the final is a different matter.

Perfect example of why two-legged ties shouldn't be a thing in basketball.

Daniel Routledge @dan_routledge · 8h I suspect Solent would be better off with a Nix comeback, possibly a better matchup for them, Nix a bit smaller. They're the underdog either way so it's a free swing, but you wonder how they deal with Gettys? Eagles could go real big

Wow that was some game. Solent were on fire and Bristol just seemed to have no answers. Think Eagles would be tougher opposition but would need to stop the 3s and think the way we play defence would against Solent quickly see us with a few players in foul trouble which would then open the floor up for them.

As I watched the game I was saying to myself I doubt Solent can play like this again. Several of them got hot on those 3 point shots At one stage everything they tried seemed to be working. Like Dan says eagles are probably too big for Solent. So Solent need nix to find a way to come back v eagles I think to have a chance in the final. I think last night might be solents cup final so to speak.

:beerchug To be honest i had never really paid much attention to him as a coach until I watched the England v Scotland game at the Commonwealths. I couldn't quite believe what i was watching. Now he's assisting GB!

I think last night might be solents cup final so to speak. Anybody who's watched anything close to 5 minutes of tape will know that if Chris Scarlett is left to shoot the ball like that he'll do exactly what he did last night time and time again. He's a dynamite shooter, but that's pretty much all he can do. Overplay him for Christ's sake and you've basically negated the threat. But apparently a GB assistant coach cant see that.
Smith had an exceptionally good game, Charles had an ok game (I've seen him play far better) and Trayvonn Wright basically did what you'd expect him to do as well (can we really say he was an unknown quantity? Kapoulas has to research better if he thinks he is).
Okoronkwo had a quiet game by his standards, and Sentence didn't have a great shooting night either. And the team was outrebounded by 1. Equal number of turnovers. Foul count was +4 across the game in favour of Solent.
I don't think this is a case of Solent playing out of their skins, aside of Ian Smith. I think they were playing with a freedom of having a free hit, a coach who has done his research (and is one of the best coaches in the county - I've been saying this for years), and a team with a winning mentality over one that has just lost arguably its best player for the season and has taken a battering recently having lost the Cup final and taken a big loss away at Glasgow.

Now he's assisting GB! You know what I tend to agree with that entirely. I thought he was doing a stellar job until I saw that - the Scotland game in particular. His defensive instructions were limited to "we need to get a stop here" (the best part about the lot was the coverage had mic's close to his time outs so you could hear every word).
I wasn't enthused. He hadn't picked up on what sets Scotland were running, who did what (you don't give Gareth Murray a shot at a three from a 45 degree angle, for example) and just didn't have any tactic whatsoever defensively.

Well if that's how they play every week they would challenge top 6 at least in BBL IMO I've seen they've not lost for nearly a year now.

If only you hadn't boycotted my blog in a spectacular strop (how is that flounce going?), you wouldn't have to keep repeating that last bit. Something else for you to not read. Everyone else is welcome, though. It appears both Lions and Flyers went with the theory that Kestrels didn't need scouting, it'd all happen by magic if they just played their normal game. I spoke to one of the Solent coaching staff the day after they won at Lions, and he said their players were clearly deciding who they were going guard during the warm-up - like a school game, was his comment. I'll accept that normally works against D1 teams, it won't against Solent. And clearly Andreas didn't learn. I like the guy, but he keeps getting found out at key moments.

I’ll agree last nights game was a shocker. And that Bristol Flyers appear to be imploding in almost a comical fashion. But aren’t we being a little unfair towards coach Kapoulas? He’s coached a team from EBL Div2 to the BBL, getting them into the Cup final. He’s not the best coach in the league but I don’t think he’s really as clueless as some have been saying.

A National Cup (09-10) and a D1 league title (10-11) in 14 years. With good resources and players too.
As I said, he's not the worst out there. But there's a lot better too.
