Maybe against Riders in a couple of weeks if we play the same as we did against Lions....

Maybe us on Friday?
They gave Plymouth a run for their money, only losing in OT after having the final shot in normal game time to actually win the game.
I've not heard whether McKnight will be back for Friday or indeed how long he's going to be on compassionate leave. We could miss him looking at the alternative, Montgomery was certainly out of his depth on Friday.
We might edge this one, but I feel we'll need him against Newcastle on Sunday.

my main concern is, like Royals we could lose them at the end of the season.
Its been a long time since we've had a 10 team league.
Worrying times in the BBL, me thinks !!

Bigz, well atleast that's a positive. I suppose its because I've seen so many clubs come and go over the years and...
I do indeed hope Giants survive. It's just that some fans can be fickle at times, and when they take the time and money to
go and watch, only to see constant defeat, they can become disillusioned and disappear.
I think most travelling fans have been to small venues where the away fans out number the home fans (I have)...
and think to themselves, how is this sustainable long term!
Who knows !! ... I may be completely wrong !! ... I hope I am !!
Also, In my opinion, a stable 16 team league looks more healthy than a diminishing 10 team league ... just a thought.

Fair assessment by 2NFR other than maybe the word fickle. I was a season ticket holder back in the Nick Nurse halcyon days, same for the 6/7 seasons since being reformed but losing week after week and more importantly not being competitive just wears you down Last year had it's moments with Big Willie but even with him and the 2 other Americans the Giants still didn't make the playoffs Once it was clear the Americans weren't returning, recruitment was underwhelming and the venue remains substandard with a heavy heart I had to say enough is enough I hope the new owners succeed but I am not holding my breathe we seem to have heard all the rhetoric before

I believe the arena has been full but perversely that in itself is a problem. The stands are very high and narrow which makes moving difficult and then they put loose chairs in any available space regardless of view. I feel like a doom and gloom merchant but I also feel Manchester Giants Basketball deserves better particularly when we have the National Basketball Centre and a new 23000 seat arena is soon to be built (not for the Giants)

Do you think 1 senior club in Manchester, with everyone behind it would be the way forward?

Lions beat Riders by 34 points, not 24 points. Just saying.

I certainly think the long term future of Manchester Giants is uncertain. Which is a shame because I think a city like Manchester can support a Manchester based BBL team if done properly. But I really don’t think there’s a risk that Giants will cease to exist at the end of this season (a la Royals). As has been mentioned, they have a new owner and I really doubt they’d shut up shop after just a few months. No point in getting involved in the first place if that’s the attitude. I think they’ll be around for at least another season, and their success at that point will determine their long term future.

Great show a again this week, I look forward to listening each week so keep them coming.
Regarding whether we’ll see a BBL team competing in Europe next season… I don’t agree that it’s fear of competing keeping BBL teams out of Europe. It’s the fear of financially damaging the team, perhaps beyond repair. I understanding wanting BBL teams to take the risk, but when that risk could result in bankrupting the team I think it’s actually very sensible not to attempt it.
As was said, owning your own venue is essential. I just can’t see it working otherwise. So that essentially leaves us with Riders, Eagles, and perhaps Wolves and Scorchers. And when we talk about actually being of a level to compete, probably just Riders and Eagles (as of now). And even having your own venue, and the ticket revenue assisting your campaign, probably isn’t going to help that much. From what I remember the crowds for Riders european games last season were very poor (perhaps because they’re played mid-week).
I really like the idea of the BBL having £250k prize money at the end of each season to support teams ventures into Europe (£150k winners, £100k runners up)… but my understanding is that the BBL doesn’t have that kind of money to throw about either. I know we should be thinking ‘bigger picture’ and short term loss for a long term gain, but when the moneys not there in the first place and there’s a high probability of it not paying off I can understand everyone’s reluctance. Unfortunately.

As above, keep the pods coming I look forward to hearing them every week. It's a nice way of keeping in touch with what else is going on in the league (along with BTR podcast) rather than my usual Newcastle centric ways.
I was quite surprised that Chris was so negative about BBL clubs views on European competition. I would love to see it happen with Eagles and would definitely attend games but I don't know if there are enough of us even at a well supported club like the Eagles to make this work. We get pretty good crowds, but it's a whole different ball game adding an extra game midweek. There is a lot of effort goes in to getting that many people in the arena every other Friday, and I'm not really sure how many casual fans would really see the distinction between European and BBL competition. For me a lot of the people that sit round me just see it as nice Friday night out at the basketball.
Personally, I would love it. But, ultimately people who run the clubs are accountable and it's all well and good saying 'just take the risk', but what if that risk doesn't work out?

I'm sure the owners remember Guildford's European adventure, It wasn't the only factor, but it went a long way towards bankrupting them. The fact Leicester didn't go back for a second go is very telling. While british basketball aims itself at the family audience, midweek basketball won't work. While there are always less kids at midweek football, the adults still go. The whole family seems to stay home when it's midweek basketball.
