Difficult times ahead could lead to lots of clubs closing (it could also have no impact).
So for fun (or not depending how you look at it)
Who do you follow? Or do you leave the sport?
In this discussion its only your team who's gone bust, every other club still exists

Step 1. Drink a lot, swear a lot. Step 2. Sulk a bit Step 3. Try to save them anyway. Step 4. Talk to a million people. Step 5. Put together a bunch of lunatics. Step 6. Buy Ware Rebels

Can't support any other BBL club! Can't even consider it! If Leopards made the move up, I might consider it or even Storm at a push, but my basketball life would never be the same! I can never understand these people who move their support to another club, makes no sense to me.

Not worth thinking about and would not want to be in that position.
No other team locally in the BBL to follow and would not travel enough to go and watch the nearest team, which would be the Rocks, Sheffield or Manchester.
No team could ever replace my Eagles.
I simply wouldn’t support a team, would still watch some games online and the NBA as well as European and college games but basketball would never be the same for me.
Hope I never have to think about this.

Would never lose touch with basketball, I've loved this sport since I was a kid watching taped highlights of NBA on Channel 4. Would mainly be watching NBA and bits of what goes on in Europe while keeping up with BBL on here and YouTube. There just isn't another club close enough to Newcastle to make it worth travelling.
I would be heartbroken if anything happened to the Eagles. It's more than just a basketball club, which is what made last Sunday so sweet. I'm not just supporting the players on the floor it's everything else that goes on below the surface that I love. The work the club does in the community, getting kids to fall in love with this sport. The work it does for people outside of basketball is also amazing. The club is really something to be proud of and a force for good, which when you look at the other major sporting club in our city really can't be underestimated.
On a selfish level, I would miss going to games so much. I'm lucky enough to have a 5 year old son who lives and breathes basketball every day and going to the ECA every other Friday has become a ritual that I hold so dear. It would leave a huge hole in our lives if we lost it.

I'd switch completely to women's basketball, support Pride in the WBBL, and continue to support Lady Rocks.

Having fallen a fair bit away from BBL basketball recently then this is a pretty easy choice for me.
Wouldn't follow any other team but would continue to get my basketball fix from the NBA. For the last season and a half that's what I have been focussing on more anyway. Although the Rocks are, of course, providing the off court entertainment I need during the current situation

Wouldn't support another team in the BBL but would watch games on YouTube as well as the NBA. I've been going to Riders for 30+ years now and it would feel so sad to lose that part of my life. Love meeting friends there and supporting my team. Don't want to contemplate them not existing.

Without Riders. Hmm. I live about 1 hour 15 mins from the Morningside Arena. In BBL only Wolves are in any way feasible from where I live (similar time/distance) but I'd rather not, thanks very much. I really couldn't see myself driving over to see Leicester Warriors, Loughborough or Derby in NBL. Game over.

Having been in this situation before I sort of already know what I would do...
Back in 2006 when London Towers withdrew from the BBL I actually stopped following basketball for a number of years. It wasn't a conscious decision, it just sort of happened. It wasn't until I went to a couple of basketball games at the London 2012 Olympics, and the Lions moved to London, that I got back into it.
I guess I'm fortunate that London is, rightly or wrongly, the single most important franchise to the BBL. So I believe the BBL will do whatever it takes to have a London team, and I suppose my alliance would be with them. But it's not quite as straight forward as that... after Towers withdraw from the BBL we saw a couple of London teams who simply shouldn't have been in the league. They were there just for a London presence, and therefore it was difficult to get behind them in any way. But hopefully there'd still be a London team, and one worth supporting.
Failing that, I'd probably switch to following the NBA until a credible London team in the BBL emerged. It was the NBA that got me into basketball in the mid-90s anyway. But I'd still keep half an eye on the BBL as a neutral.

I'd support whatever team my kids played for, and forget about professional basketball. I'm sure the junior clubs will recover, albeit they'll have some real difficulties in the short term, but wouldn't be interested in following a different existing BBL team.
Let's just hope it doesn't come to that, as weekends without basketball and football (and pubs) isn't one any of us need!

I’ve been in it for the long haul just like Massiveridersfan, 30+ years for me too, Hell No! I’m not giving my support to any other club, Ask one of the Scorchers lot, they find it easy, TV Tigers, Guildford Heat, now Surrey Scorchers

Also in the Riders / Planters 30+ year club. Couldn't see myself supporting anyone else and the nearest current bbl team is at least 70 miles away so getting to any games would not be easy.
Would probably go back to watching the tigers as well as city or find a new sport to watch

No way could I replace Eagles with another BbL team. It would be Memphis Grizzlies, Durham cricket and Welsh rugby for me.

I’d consider following a phoenix club if one were to arise in Newcastle (particularly if Paul Blake were involved), but otherwise I doubt I’d follow another BBL club, at least for a while. Not sure if I’d drift back to the NBA in the meantime or out of basketball altogether.

Forgot to say earlier that when I read the title to this thread my initial reaction was "WTF!" because I thought a BBL club had declared bankruptcy. Relieved to discover it wasn't that horrible news.

Yep !! ... When I read that title too ... I thought "WTF!! , is he talking to me?" ...Then again, its still early days and nobody knows how long the lockdown will last. This time next year, who knows what the BBL will look like. Difficult times for everyone at the moment Be well, be safe ... peace

Just a bit of fun!
I personally would forget about senior basketball, just stick to my youth team.
Just read that all players can claim 80% of wages from the government which will be a massive saver to many clubs

If the Rocks folded then I'd try and find a businessman with good finances and a knowledge of the sport then find a home court in my local area.
Perhaps playing out of the Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell, the team would be the Motherwell Steelers.
Can anyone answer this? Would the BBL accept applications from the Scottish League, like start out the Club in Scotland then try and get into the BBL. I know it wouldn't be easy but I think it could be achievable in 10 years. Get a competitive team for Scottish level and develop the next Kieron Achara. Then you set up a scouting network by finding talent in England. After many years the team wins the Scottish title and starts a long run, the BBL still without a team in Scotland after the demise of the Rocks sees the potential of this new force in Scottish Basketball and invites them to join, they then start out modestly, scraping into the playoffs, then next season they sign a jersey sponsorship deal worth 6 figures, they then sign a couple of talented Americans and a couple of top European prospects. They finish in the top 4, making the semi of the Cup & Trophy then losing their Playoff QF after a narrow 2nd leg .
They then win the league and reach the Final of Cup & Trophy, winning the Playoffs, season after that they win it all, then get battered in Europe the season after. The team then goes to mid table winning trophies from time to time.

I like the fact you accept if you go into Europe you're going to get guubbed The BBL will accept any team with a reasonable business plan and the ability to pay the franchise fee. Your plan to build a club & fanbase would definitely be a plus for me if I was on the Franchise Committee. I reckon you'd only need three years in the Scottish League, it would either be make or break by then. Your kind of answer was the one that's been sadly missing from this thread.
