None of the Governments across the world have an answer for this Really! Do you not think relaxing to the extent he did just before the autumn whilst young people were returning to education was irresponsible and down right incompetent! The phrase f•••up has now been replaced by the term doing a Boris. It’s endless and extremely worrying. No trade deal on the cards Late going into lockdown Late shuting borders Exam fiasco Irresponsible and unconbasketball kited relaxation of lockdown Incredibly mixed messages Increasing isolationist approach in Europe What next? How long until the Tories grow a pair and remove him from office

So Faz you are criticising them for relaxing too much at the same time that many in the country are complaining about the restrictions And you will find the same in almost every country in the world. They've even had protests in Australia and New Zealand I'm not defending our Govt I'm just saying nowhere has the answers to Covid

A measured approach to relaxation would seem more prudent pre the anticipated second wave, the flu season and younger people returning to education

So is it just adult indoor team sports that are banned? If that is the case it's d2, d3, and local league that are being stopped?
Seems like a very select group of people to ban?
Gyms remain open, all indoor individual sports unaffected, football and all outdoor sports ok.
I wonder other than basketball what other sports this impacts? Netball?

Yes netball 5 a side football and 5 a side cricket. Indoor hockey. Ice hockey. It's just a select group in basketball as you say. Much bigger numbers when you add in the other sports. Lots of indoor football and cricket leagues will have to stop. And I would suggest this it just the start of restrictions Scientists and doctors complaining today we haven't learnt from March and the measures taken yesterday aren't enough And will need to a stricter and longer lockdown in due course as a result

5 a side football, indoor hockey can both sports that have outdoor versions so I refuse to count those really as being impacted as a sport.
Difference with basketball, netball, ice hockey is you have to have an indoor facility to participate and train.

Will bankrupt many businesses that provide those leagues though I guess in the same way you can say basketball as a sport can still continue as you can play it outside as well Even though the elite clubs and league face financial crisis basketball as a sport itself can continue to be played and survive albeit nowhere near to normal And I have to disagree about netball. Loads of netball games are played outside ? Again it's just the indoor netball league on sky that's at major risk there. But they cancelled this season a while ago now anyway I will give you Ice hockey though!!

Also I will repeat what I said yesterday when it was just rumours of a 6 month shutdown If BBL can survive this then they should be looking at an April To September league as those months are likely to have far less lockdowns and restrictions than the autumn and winter months And more chance of spectators being allowed If they wait til next October to restart they may face exact same issues as now

Every sport and business will have to adapt short term at least won't it? I think we both agree the sports themselves can get through this. It's the organisations and venues offering the sports that face the real problems.

I agree Dandayr. The email was very clear and also promised further clarity on the critical point of how many bubbles of 6 may be allowed on one court at a time. It will make a huge difference to the financial feasibility for grass roots adult basketball if we can have two groups of 6 (effectively training/playing in a half court at either end). At my club this would allow us to provide basketball to all our players week in/week out whilst these additional restrictions are in place.
Looking on FB a lot of people are asking about how the rule of 6 applies to over 18s who are coaching etc the kids.

The original 6 rule was effectively 5 plus a coach per full court

None of the Governments across the world have an answer for this What do you mean by “this”? C0vid response or indoor sport. Lots of other Governments/Leaders have had a much better response to COVID with better public health and economic outcomes than UK Government - most have female and/or socialist leaders. There is plenty of evidence to back this up. This government has failed miserably in its response which has had a serious impact on health outcomes and economic outcomes.

Oh, come on. Apart from Trump and Bolsanaro we have the worst leader by far. I didn't say ours was any good. Just saying none of the rest have done any good. I'm not counting New Zealand in that. They've just shut off entirely. Australia just coming out of strict 6 week lockdown again for second time No easy answers for anybody Parts of Australia - local lockdowns where necessary. Vietnam successful - despite having borders with China. S Korea successful Kerala in India successful Iceland successful Germany ........ I could go on giving more examples if you wish. UK Government one of the worst in the world for health and economic outcomes.

I’m not saying that they are exactly like the UK in terms of country. But they are a country and have done a significantly better job than every other “major” country on earth. Also, the population per square mile is meaningless when vast swathes are unpopulated and most people are crammed into cities and large towns. Auckland has a population of 1.5 million. Covid could spread there quite easily. It’s a fairly well held belief that New Zealand has dealt with it superbly and I stand by my point, the only reason you’re not is because it contradicts your point. I wish we could be like them I guess a lot of us wish we could live there for a while at least! Im not ignoring them because it contradicts me. I'm ignoring them as we can't genuinely expect our government to stop anyone leaving or entering the country There would be uproar from all sides if we did I'm sure And if we went into strict lockdown every time we got a handful of cases then even worse It's just no comparison IMO But yes I admire how they've gone about stuff regardless Funnily enough even their lady in charge gets a lot of criticism in New Zealand so it just shows you can't please everybody I believe we should have closed our borders in March - we have never implemented any meaningful testing or self isolation/quarantine procedures for people entering the country. I have family members who live in HK and upon return they had to quarantine for 14 days - with a tag linked to an app on phone!! Have freinds who travelled to Lithuania - temperature taken on arrival, form to complete and hand in etc. Return to UK - walk through airport wiht no tem[erature check, no forms collected - nothing. We are an island and as such could easily have taken greater measures with regards to quarantine and testing people entering the country. I was in Poland when they locked down in March. They closed their borders with 24 hours notice. Why could we not do the same? After all Brexiteers claimed they wanted to control their borders! Perfect opportunity to practice that control!! This government could have taken many different measures - but chose not to. They have failed spectacularly.

He is the stooge for right wing eugenacists and disaster capitalists. Corbyn would have had a much more human response to this crisis - with better health and economic outcomes. Universal Basic Income could have been implemented and would have reduced anxiety and assisted economy. The banks were bailed out with £124billion in 2011 - please do not insult me by saying that we cannot afford to look after vulnerable people and small businesses during this pandemic.

And it's incredibly hard to balance opening an economy and protecting lives at the same time for all of the countries. Don't think any of our political parties have yet to put forward closing our borders as a solution to the problem

Don't think any of our political parties have yet to put forward closing our borders as a solution to the problem Why is this bigger and longer term than bailing out the banks - of course there is comparison in terms of bailing out banks vs bailing out vulnerable people and small business. Because you do not agree does not make you right! How are they all doing **** in their own way - just because you say they are doing **** does not mean they are! Examples and evidence please. I do not participate in the winners vs losers discussion - i have provided examples of governments which have handled this better than UK Government with better health and economic outcomes - to counter your view/opinion that no governments across the world have an answer to this. I am not suggesting that it is not hard to balance health and economic outcomes - but priovided evidence of countries that have managed this more successfully than UK Government. I have not suggested that any policical party in this country advocated closing our bordersd - I have suggested that we could have managed our borders and entry/re-entry to the country differently and provided examples of where it had happened differently.
