Hi all.
I used to play National League ball when I was younger and have on and off (mostly off) followed the BBL for a number of years now.
Going to get back into it this year and hopefully get to some games. Just wondering when the start of the season is and who’s expected to win it and who would be the teams to keep an eye on.
Thanks for having me anyway and good luck to all the teams.
David

The one main question about starting, no one has a clue when it'll get going. Team to watch, Lions, they have a squad of dozens and have the honour of the only BBL team to have played a proper game this season.

The London Lions have entered European competition and spent big on players. They look like they will win the BBL by a long way should it go ahead. The league was due to start this weekend, I think, but the corona changed those plans. There isnt a rescheduled date as yet. Whether any can watch the games in person is still anyones guess. I hope you enjoy the season once it gets going. Should be a good scrap for second place once it gets started.

Thanks for the replies. Such a shame the league is being affected by COVID. Hopefully they can get back to playing in no time at all. I actually watched the London Lions game in the European Tournament. I understand a BBL side ever stepping into European Competition is hard.
I’ll keep a look out on this site though for any updates. Thank you

If you live in Brighton mate maybe Surrey would be a good fit If it is a good fit geographically that's all well and good but from a strength standpoint prepare yourself for some hurt.
Having said that (from all my years of watching the turgid seasons at Birmingham & Worcester), when the Ws come they feel even better.

I’m used to pain from following my football team - luckily. I’ve followed Newcastle Eagles in the NBA Finals as well as Surrey Scorchers too.
Just really looking to get into it this season. What’s coverage like for fans that aren’t able to attend all the games? Is there streaming online? Or any coverage on BBC Sport or Sky Sports?

It was all free on Youtube last season but it wouldnt surprise me if that stopped given the dire need for clubs to obtain some sort of income and clubs charge for streams.

The revenue will need to come from somewhere if no fans are allowed in. Well thanks, I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

Hi. I've just joined this forum. I've only really become interested in basketball this year. I've been looking for a forum to discuss British basketball. Other sports I'm interested in are rugby and netball. In my opinion basketball is the sport with the most unfulfilled potential in Britain. Basketball should be the number one minor team sport and number one professional arena sport in Britain. EIHL and Netball Superleague are successes. But I am positive about British basketball. I feel like a change is coming. Maybe not this year with Covid, but soon after. Basketball is a global sport and Britain is the last frontier. I live in Swindon. I would support Bristol Flyers in the BBL and London Lions in Europe.

Swindon actually has 2 teams. Team Swindon and Swindon Shock. They're both in National League Division 3 Southwest. But of course they're not playing because of Covid.

It is my hope that in a few years time there will be a British basketball league at the same standard as other professional leagues in Europe. Bristol Flyers can be one of the teams. There are plans to build a basketball arena at Ashton Gate.

Flyers fans could give you a date but it's a fair while.

There are plans to build a basketball arena at Ashton Gate. I believe it will happen. A proper professional league like the French league has to be the goal. Bristol Sport wouldn't be investing in basketball if that wasn't their goal. I reckon there will be 6 or more clubs ready to take professional basketball to the next level in a few years time. And one of those will be the Flyers.

They entered the bbl in the summer of 2014 and would have had plans to move venues. It took them six years to produce sone nice plans, it cpyld be decades before bricks get laid

Yes it could be decades, but the plan is for the basketball arena to be built by 2022, so hopefully it'll be years not decades.
