Just read that the Manchester Mystics have also done likewise.

Apparently it got quite tasty on twitter last night. The rumour is they wanted to play the cup final but not the league and were told no. As the WBBL is bringing in plague testing, I can't see how the Cup is safe but the league isn't.

If the rumour is true then Sevenoaks were clearing looking to exercise some form of risk management - accepting the risk of playing in the Cup final for it's greater reward, but not accepting the risk of playing league games for little reward. Makes sense from Sevenoaks perspective. But I can understand why the WBBL themselves wouldn't like the idea. Although personally I don't see the harm in letting them play in the Cup final and postpone just a few league games to later in the season.

All their reasons for not playing leafue games apply to the final. They have 19 league games left. I can't see how they get them played if they don't start ubtil mid Feb

That's from a Sevenoaks view of course, as I said, I can understand the WBBL seeing it differently themselves. However it slightly surprises me that WBBL didn't accept that logic if only to prevent a somewhat disrupted Cup final fixture in front of a national television audience. But as we've seen with the BBL, it appears there's no concern about how disrupting the competition format by moving teams around as they feel necessary is perceived. At least in that respect they're somewhat consistent - it would have been unfair to show flexibility for Sevenoaks Suns and not for Manchester Giants.

Was looking and couldn’t see any - only Steve Vear saying something (but nothing controversial)

As the WBBL is bringing in plague testing, I can't see how the Cup is safe but the league isn't. Who was arguing on Twitter? Was looking and couldn’t see any - only Steve Vear saying something (but nothing controversial) I found a few comments from Sevenoaks Suns players basically saying the way the WBBL are running the competition is wrong, and if it were them they wouldn't play in a final that they hadn't legitimately earned their place in. Nothing explicitly saying that the WBBL won't let them play in the Cup final if they don't continue with the scheduled league games over the next few weeks, but the comments would certainly support that rumour. I think we need to accept this is an unconventional season, with some unconventional decisions being made by both the BBL and the WBBL. But they're only executing the rules for each competition as documented at the start of the season, however unconventional they are.
