Pats been a paying fan since before they were even in London. Whoever runs that twitter account is a mess.
*But not as bigger mess as the Surrey admin who blocked me for saying their players dont smile in photos. Dead franchise.

AMAZED that the people who run these accounts don't realise the harm they do by blocking people for extremely minor transgressions.
Unless people are being abusive, just leave them to get on with it. It's so obvious that this guy only wants what is best for the club he supports and they respond with that. So, so shortsighted.

AMAZED that the people who run these accounts don't realise the harm they do by blocking people for extremely minor transgressions. Unless people are being abusive, just leave them to get on with it. It's so obvious that this guy only wants what is best for the club he supports and they respond with that. So, so shortsighted. I think the real issue is these are not transgressions; they are just genuine opinions and questions! The reason the league is so sensitive is, I think, there is still a volunteer culture. People paid little or nothing for helping the club, committing lots of their time and I guess that makes them sensitive. I am sure Dave F could elaborate on that (or completely debunk it!). |

i think it goes higher than volunteer level. Club messageboards never really took off in the BBL because the ownership were so touchy about the slightest criticism and because the game is so small they were able to influence discussions. Once proper debate gets censored, people stop bothering.
The control-freak nature of some clubs has always stifled journalists covering basketball. If no one's allowed to say anything slightly controversial there's no story. The Raiders ownership were beyond angry with the Herald for daring to follow up Corletto's comments about Leopards, getting the BBL involved because I'd responded to slating us. We didn't get invited into the Trophy the following season, only competing because Magic pulled out at the last minute, and I got a "please don't say anything about Raiders" call when we were drawn against them in the QFs.
However I think Lions, in this instance, are different. This is someone at a US-based media company getting sniffy because it's being pointed out that s/he isn't doing the job properly. People don't like being told that. How the logistics of someone in the States doing the media coverage is suppose to work is probably a big part of this.

Whilst we may not always have the same opinions, he knows my comments come from my depth of feeling for the club & wanting them to do well. |

I 100% agree, and I spoke about this on another thread. I think it was in relation to the general level of commentary accross the league. Without them there is no doubt that we wouldnt be where we are. But if you want to improve, you have to get the right people in the right places and with that, comes cost. |

I get the impression that Lions social media are ran by young, maybe still UEL students who do not know anything about basketball in the UK.
Pat quite rightly questioned their output. Since the Final there had not been one item about the Lions. A few about the anniversary of Kobe's death and a poll in what colour shoes you like. The Final was a tremendous effort from a severely depleted squad due to Covid. No interviews with any player or member of the coaching staff, no updates on the affected players, no information about the recovery plan for them. No interview regarding the European results and how Lions would have fared if allowed to play.
Social media is a brilliant tool when used correctly. Bristol & Surrey come to mind as something to aspire too.

I don't understand why they're all so scared to posting things a bit controversial it brings in views ten fold and brings in so much more attention. You can see that on here from the huge spikes in views and posts on the latest examples being Royals folding and the drugs bans I think from early last year.
