Hi everyone, this is my first post here. Whether or not yesterdays leaked govt memo on twitter was 100% true or not, in respect of lockdown 4 already being pencilled in from November 2021 to February 2022 (to protect our NHS) . . . It raises many thoughts. . . including that it could obviously decimate another basketball season. One way or another I do anticipate some sort of disruption for the next few winters. With this in mind what are your thoughts about moving the season so it runs from March to October? Should be no winter travel cancellations, a lot less positive tests and the ability to have crowds in ventilated venues too should surely help all British clubs survive. I look forward to everyone's thoughts, thank you

Obviously the BBL couldn't start this March, i guess it could in future years, but it's another ten month gap between seasons. All other levels (WBBL, NBL and junior) would find it virtually impossible to function between mid-May & early July because of exams - they just wouldn't get venues. It would also clash with the junior national programmes and the kids' holidays. Of course, they could do it this year Welcome to Bev. As long as you remember I'm the boss, you'll be fine Without getting political, i reckon they might need the army on the streets to impose a 4 month lockdown IV without a bloody good reason.

I think as things currently stand the public would not tolerate another winter lockdown after the mass vaccination. Therefore I shall remain optimistic and say that come October 2021 the basketball season will be able to resume.
Lower down the pyramid I think BE and local leagues need to have a think about some form of summer competitions to re-engage the playing community below elite level. Depending on restrictions etc this could be shortened cup style tourneys, 3v3 competitions, summer leagues etc. These could build up momentum before the season. I think the appetite will be there. BE cannot be relied on to do anything that create but I can see local leagues doing it.
For example in the Northeast the Tynemet and Durham Leagues could combine for some form of summer basketball.

There's also this issue of at what point are schools willing to start letting out their halls again, often most are shut in summer even under normal circumstances.

In scotland a large majority of sport happens using school sport facility. I really hope councils and leisure trusts support clubs to make the return to play successful
