Wow. Feel sorry for Jackson. Riders really have been blighted by serious injuries for the last couple of seasons.

Really tough for Zach. Shame for him and for Riders as things have been going well so far.
But players with a college resume like Heron don't come to the bbl. A consensus 5* recruit coming out of HS (liggins was 4* for reference) and having a look back at consensus rankings I can't find anyone with a higher rsci ranking that has played in the bbl.
He averaged 15ppg. As a rookie. In the SEC. Very few players do that. Even future NBA players. Look at the other guys on the all freshman team to get an idea of how strong the SEC is. He was the top scorer on the team that topped the SEC in his second year. Transferred to St John's and averaged similar numbers in the Big East. Can't be more than a handful of players to have played in our league who have a better HS and college resume.
It's clearly a buyers market this year but even so this is an exciting signing. Doesn't necessarily mean it will translate as coming in mid season is tough no matter who you are. But in theory should make Riders stronger.

I've been looking for one but can't see one. Hes regarded as a plus defender. Has good size and strength and is a good rebounder. All round good guy too by the sounds of it.
Looks like he was injured at the end of last season so trying to find a gig mid season during a pandemic can't be easy. Comes from same area as Rob so may be a connection there. Maybe just a case of us being in the right place at the right time.
Sometimes its who you know that's most important. Think that was a big part of us signing Matthews. Hopefully this guy sticks around a bit longer

St John’s Mustapha Heron played his entire senior year with a misdiagnosed foot injury and ended the season early in Feb of 2020 due to further injuring the same foot in a game against Brown after blocking a shot on a fast break. Heron had a successful surgery and started to put in work right away.
Heron’s 6 hour daily routine included working out on a turf field, rubber track, local streets, heated swimming pool, ballet instruction, sandbags workouts, stick mobility, powerlifting, basketball court drills and physical therapy.
Heron is the healthiest and strongest he has ever been in his life. During his recovery, Heron’s strength went through the roof and he was able to put on 18 pounds of pure muscle on a vegan diet. Mustapha is benching 225lbs, squatting 405lbs, and deadlifting 365lbs.

Nice. I read a few reports that said his offence essentially came from 3s and bullying smaller defenders. BBL guards are going to enjoy trying to cover him.

Remember watching him in college and there was a lot of hype at various times. Dipped his toe in the draft and transferred to St John's to support his family

He's obviously been using the same personal trainer that I've been involved with, but as yet I've haven't been contacted by any club for a contract. However as someone said that it was the deadline for teams to add to their roster so there's still hope. Must log off, the phones ringing!! Seriously though seems a decent pick up, Covid or not, the league seems to attracting some quality players this season, it's a real shame that we can't get to see them play in the flesh.

His fDa Bryon Heron was a good player for Worthing Bears in the early nineties. This is a very good signing. I expected Mustapa to play at a much higher level.

Looks like a really decent replacement and Riders have moved quickly to replace Johnson. College numbers are very good. Only two concerns would be that he's returning from an injury and is a rookie arriving mid-season. But his Dad had two great years in The BBL so should have clued him up? If he retains his college form he should be exciting to watch.

He’s been injured and needs to play. Expect his motivation to be very high.

I'd argue the last player with that hype in college and high school would have been taylor king and maybe julius hodge?

Really interesting decision by riders
1. Signing deadline coming up so now or never 2. Jackson has struggled a little with injury but has been suiting up and playing perfectly serviceably. The starting 5 with him in was the best unit in the league. 3. I gather that he was going to have to have an operation next week so my previous supposition was out of whack! As an enforced move riders have certainly found a high calibre replacement.

Yes Heron is a top talent but with his injury he hasn’t played and that’s why he is here, he needs to play. But he will need to be a part of the jigsaw. Interesting times.
