It is a good article but it ignores the indifference of mainstream media to the British game which still holds it back in my view. I'm sure the editorial doors have been knocked on many times but they still seem to remain shut for British basketball.

Could they not find an up to date photo to use? Neither the player or even one of the teams exist on these shores anymore

found the article a bit mehhhhh
what did it inform us about the past we did not know - everyone keeps saying the 80s was the glory years and basketball has never lived up to its potential since. We have another article now to file in that folder
ok on the brighter future - apparently we just need a british version of Luka in the NBA and that will trigger the professional game development?
Three brits who made the NBA: Deng, Archibald, Amaechi I believe all in their own way have aided the growth and aspiration at grassroots - but I struggle to see how having a player at the next level above them of a face of a nba franchise helps the professional growth in uk.
funding of course gets mentioned - and look at poor us compared to sport a,b and c.
funding is more than just quango/gov/uni/UKsport etc - I bet Vitality pay Netball less than Betfred pays RL who are prob paying less that Heineken pay RU, however they have title sponsors which BBL and WBBL cant say
yes some funding matters are out of the sports control and dependent on the strategies and decisions of say gov/BOA/UKsport/etc but others are in the sports hands - sponsorships, gate income, merchandise income, community programs.
Maybe if the article also called out where good things are happening, where things could be developed further and where it thinks the current incumbents have maybe not explored and considered enough - I might have found it a bit less mehhhhh
