Is the 5pm game 1st v 8th, followed by the 7pm game being 2nd v 7th? 5pm and 7:30pm are the tip-off times. It reads as if 1st v 8th will be at 5pm, and 2nd v 7th will be at 7:30pm, but I haven't seen that explicitly confirmed yet.

I'm still struggling to see the logic behind this format. Virtually all of the 165 games have been played on clubs' own floors, yet we get to the play-offs and we have the abortion that is two-leg basketball staged at mainly neutral venues with a couple of clubs getting a home game, Baffling

I assume the reasoning behind the format is due to the Sky coverage of every game. The clubs must have agreed that the extra costs for travel/accommodation are outweighed by the benefits of the Sky coverage on YouTube

Second leg in the London v Worcester, at Worcester, may be interesting. I'm getting a "Vince P45 day" banner made up.

Well you must really have it in for him to give a comment like that. I do not know him, but I do know he has done a lot for British Basketball. I hope he survives and prospers at London

The clubs must have agreed that the extra costs for travel/accommodation are outweighed by the benefits of the Sky coverage on YouTube I have it on good knowledge that the Sky coverage is main reasoning behind the format... much cheaper television production wise to play as many games in the same venues on the same days as possible. Personally, if that means all 13 BBL Play-Off games (plus WBBL too) can be streamed for free on Sky Sports YouTube channel (and all semi-finals and final on Sky Sports too) then I'm all for it. I quite like the 'May Madness' approach they've gone for. I do wish they'd stop saying games are being played in neutral venues though. They simply aren't. Given the format though I did wonder if they could have re-introduced the 'best of 3' format that was talked about, but never happened, last season. Much easier to do if you're setting up camp for the week in a single venue. Maybe potential money lost on the likes of hotels still meant it wasn't do-able.

The fact that it's YouTube makes it a hard sell for me. I'm not sure that it does anything for the league's profile. But it's happening, and I'll watch.

In empty arenas, it feels slightly more neutral than it would with fans present. It will be interesting as a dry run, if Sky like it and want to do it again next year with fans hopefully present. I don't know about other clubs but Lions usually struggle to sell tickets for home playoff games at short notice. Would these events manage to sell, in the same way the cup and trophy finals sell tickets regardless of who's playing?

I know streaming the games on YouTube sounds like a downgrade from broadcasting them on Sky Sports, but as far as I'm aware no game on Sky Sports has been watched by more than 6,000 people. Where as the games that have been streamed on the Sky Sports YouTube channel have anywhere between 4,000 and 44,000 views. So I'd say the real success of this Sky Sports deal is the reach of having a few games streamed on it's YouTube channel, not having a weekly game broadcast on Sky Sports. It's also worth noting that as far as I'm aware only the 8 Quarter-Final games are only on YouTube. The 4 Semi-Final games and the Final will also be on Sky Sports.

So we beat Worcester then Newcastle before beating London in the final Wouldn't the winner of the 3rd v 6th QF play the winner of the 2nd v 7th QF (So if Raiders win their QF they'd play Lions or Phoenix in the SF)?

Not necessarily. The top seed plays the lowest remaining seed.

It didn't work then, and random sides getting home court (I accept it's of limited benefit this year) just devalues the competition. I thought we were going to best-of-three because the play-offs were a good source of revenue for clubs. This season is (hopefully) unique but this would be a massive step backwards if this format is repeated.

Whilst I dislike immensely that non-neutral venues are being used throughout the play-offs, I can understand the reasoning behind it. It gives the home teams a massive advantage but given the position the world is on at the moment, it's amazing that we've even got to the point we can have a finish to the season, so the BBL should be applauded for actually getting to the end of the season.
