Rob gives up dreams of coaching at the highest level and settles to be Leicesters Fab.
Thats not a dig, who wouldn't want to be the most decorated bbl Coach of all time but he's not going elsewhere at 53.

He's settled in Leicester, his wife is from Leicester and he has two young children.
With the instability of coaching jobs, why would you give up that stability, and quality of life to take a short term deal elsewhere?
This could well be a decision made for quality of life and family reasons, and all the betetr for that.

It always annoys me when people in sports are criticised for staying put somewhere rather going off for a 'more challenging role'. Sometimes people have higher priorities than their professional 'challenges'. Leicester is also a great club with solid foundations for the future, especially now with an amazing coach signed up for the next 5 years. It's also good news for the BBL, Coach Paternostro is a great ambassador for the league and always comes across well in interviews etc. Nice one Leicester!

With the instability of coaching jobs, why would you give up that stability, and quality of life to take a short term deal elsewhere? To further his career... Take on a bigger challenge... Make a better living. If it went tits up, do you not think Riders (or one of the other top clubs in this league) would be getting in touch pretty fast? He seems like an ambitious, driven type of character from afar. I'd be surprised if he doesn't move on at some point. But I see no reason why he couldn't do so five years from now. 53 is far from old in coaching terms. And I doubt this deal guarantees he hangs around that long anyway.

53 doesn't seem old in terms of being appointed a coach. What matters is a proven track record and other qualities, e.g. man management & experience. Paternostro has always won the respect of players and other coaches. His achievements as a coach speak for themselves and I don't think other clubs would look at those and say, "But look at his age! Put his application on the back burner pile and let's move on."

I think quality of life would be a big part of the decision, also his wife has a successful career in the Leicester area, which would be an important factor too.
Rob has the best job in British basketball, a great working relationship with the clubs owner, and a job in Leiester for as long as he wants.
Why give that up?

If anything I think hell have more options as a result of the success the club will no doubt have over the next 5 years. I dont think this is a case of him not having any other options thus signing as a last resort - like those closer to the club have suggested hes got a family here and very much has a nice life, so why not. British Basketball is better off for having Rob Paternostro around - I think now hes tied down to these shores for anothet 5 years surely its time GB knocked on his door if they havent already, even if its for an assistant/performance analyst role. Hed be an asset certainly defensively.

One of Robs talents or modes of operating is to scout/recruit players who will fit into his style of playing and have the correct “character”. I suspect he wouldn’t have that luxury at international level. Also, I suspect he would not like to deal with any of the “political” BS that goes on. With Riders he has a unique relationship with the owners which can go a long way when weighing up employment options.

I doubt GB even have his number. He'd want things done properly. GB like the players to chip in for their pot noodles.

Russell Levenston teasing ‘massive’ news tomorrow
Hopefully it’s them entering the Champions league, or maybe another year of Geno?

Just reading the news and highlighting the problems concrete city centre shopping centres are having with several earmarked for "repurposing" ( I e knocking them down). Apart from it ruining Vinces back up plans for ' ball n shopping' wonder if anyone with money and a philanthropic attitude would see it as a opportunity to build arenas for basketball in city centres. Probably not!!!'
