I think Ben is doing a very good professional job at Phoenix. Very impressive start to next season.

Phoenix seem to be a team that have benefited from Covid financially if early signings are anything to go by?

I suspect Chester have one of the smallest budgets in the league.

No idea about wages but seem to have made more early signings than in previous years followed up by Danny Byrne?

Cheshire normally run with a small squad, so far the squad won't average 50ppg, not entirely sure they recruited that well

True but why would you recruit like they have If you were not adding Americans?

Think last year we had 15 on the squad at various times mind you getting them all fit and playing was a different matter. Of those McCall was the only one who played all 30, 3 others managed 28/9 ga,mes, a lot were in and out or mainly out!

I’ve no idea on budgets but a fairly senior figure at Riders told me Nix pay more than Riders. I’m guessing that may have been related to what Jamal got at riders compared to what Nix paid him. Nix were pretty frugal last year but sensibly so imo. Wonder if some funds were held back for this year. Nix have certainly gone deeper in recent years compared to their traditional 6 players. Good to see.

I’m thinking ‘a senior source at riders’ is pulling your leg. They are not in the same stratosphere.

I’m thinking ‘a senior source at riders’ is pulling your leg. They are not in the same stratosphere. In some cases is it not about the total package than the pay though ? Are Nix able to give their players quality houses to live in, cars to drive, private medical and dental care, Foc gym access, childcare if they have kids and food for the players etc. As well as educate some of them To the same level Riders are able to do through their various sponsors and the Arena Lots of ways to reward players? Maybe Nix do but if not then they will need to pay some players more in comparison just for them to be able to afford all of the above ?

Do Nix also give all their players quality houses to live in, cars to drive, private medical and dental care, Foc gym access and feed them etc. As well as educate some of them To the same level Riders are able to do through their various sponsors and the Arena Lots of ways to reward players? Any suggestion that players accept lesser money to get the add-ons is nuts. Liggins didn't go to London for a nice apartment and a gym membership.
Ultimately they are pros and their livelihood depends on the contract that they or their agent negotiates in the summer.
Fans love the idea that players will play for clubs out of respect for a club but its pie in the sky, If a club isn't willing to pay market value then a pro will go to a club that is willing to pay it.
And budget wise its L 1. London. 2. Plymouth (as was) 3. Leicester/Newcastle 5. Worcester (as was) 6-11 everyone else.

Interestingly Liggins has apparently gone ballistic after his salary didn’t appear for last 2 pay checks - he won’t be back then?

Dave When Tyler Bernardini was at Riders He got the following package (on top of his wages) A private family size house for him, his partner and their dog A Masters Business Degree sponsorship A quality sponsored car An extra paid job in the commercial department of Riders Private medical and dental care Food allowance spend at the arena His partner also had a good job at one of the club's biggest sponsors I'm not sure how high to value all of the above on a monthly basis but all I do know is any club unable to match the above is going to have to offer SIGNIFICANTLY higher salary to compete? Surely that goes without saying? Especially in such a low paid sport I would go further and say without the lure of the Masters degree he would never have been in the UK to start with ? In fact I'm pretty sure he's on record as saying that? And the vast majority of the above came from sponsors and were not costs to Riders But I'm going to estimate theres well over 50k of annual benefits to him there? And he needs far less salary as a result? Don't tell me thats nuts? Add ons can make all the difference in a poorly paid sport He had plenty and thats what made him sign for us and justify staying with us as long as he did And our playing staff wagebill at the time would look significantly less as a result? Ps I can agree on a player like Liggins. Have to disagree on a player like Tyler Different players at different ages have different needs and aspirations We have imports earning a fraction of wages others earn due to taking Master's Degrees ? And without some of the partnerships we have there is no way we could afford such deep squads as we do We are fortunate in that respect
