Can't be 8 teams. Playing a season to eliminate one team is mad. Top 4 and best of 3 series. Or a play off weekend like the good old days.

Can't be 8 teams. Playing a season to eliminate one team is mad. Top 4 and best of 3 series. Or a play off weekend like the good old days. I've been thinking about this What if playoffs before 02 became best of 3 and top 4 got 2 back to back home games as a reward for being top 4 and the 3rd leg only happens away if required It would mean the aim for all 9 teams is to get top 4 and positions 5 to 8 are not as well rewarded? At least it creates more competition til the end of the league for more teams The bottom teams still compete for 8th and 9th and the middle teams battle for top four Top teams are competing to win the league regardless The reward for top four is not just more chance of winning first round but also guaranteed extra revenue from two home games The above would work reasonably ok even if we went to 8 teams

We've had 9 teams before with an 8 team play-offs structure so I wouldn't get your hopes up of anything changing.

For the BBL Cup I'd have three groups of three playing each other home and away. The top two from each group qualify as does the best third place team. The remaining two play home and away for the last slot. The eight qualifiers are split into two groups of four playing home and away. The top two in each group qualify. They go into a single group of four playing home and away. The top two qualify. They play each other home and away to decide the BBL Cup winner.
Alternatively the BBL Cup could be a straight knock-out. I'd like the patent on my unique straight knock-out format idea though, as well as trademarking the use of 'Cup' to define the format.

Reduce it down to 6 but have an NBA-esque play in for the sixth position. Seven and eight play each other for chance to play six. Six only has win once to hold position. Then get rid of aggregate and go best of three, with the third game if required being played at a neutral venue. We'll obviously be keeping the one legged final but I'm OK with that tbh.

In Canada (CEBL) only six teams go forward to the play-offs (in a league of seven teams).
It appears to work like this:-
QUARTER FINALS
3rdTeam vs 6thTeam 4thTeam vs 5thTeam
SEMI-FINALS 1stTeam vs lowest remaining seeded team 2ndTeam vs other remaining team
