Bbl refs in discussion with BBL over an increase in match fees, so far no agreement, so referees not available next weekend??
Bbl refs took a reduction last season due to Covid, but due to no increase in 5 years have given several proposals to BBL which have to date been declined
Interesting that since 2001 (20 years) only a £10 increase to date
Hope this is sorted by next Friday or no BBL refs

you can ignore the original post, it is factually incorrect in a number of details.

Without the refs there are no games, if there are no games then there's nothing we can talk about

Wow, that's fairly blase considering most of you haven't been able to go to a game for 18 months. I don't know the exact numbers, when the BBL went to three refs (I think 2003/4) their fee went up by about 50 percent. If the original poster is correct, it hasn't gone up by much since. They are paid considerably more than D1 refs, they tend to have more travelling but that's balanced by 35p per mile. There's no easy answer here. Clearly no ref does this for a living, there may be some who rely on the money as part of their income although that's risky as they could get injured or piss the wrong person off and get dropped from the list. My info is they took a pay cut for the BBL Cup games but when the DCMS £££ arrived thy reverted to normal. I'm not sure this is the time to be pushing for a pay rise, I'm not one of the doom merchants, but i don't expect crowds to instantly return to their pre-plague levels. BBL games cost a lot to officiate/stat, it's a 9 "man" crew. The refs are on a lot more money than the other six, and their pay is far better than D1/WBBL. If they're "unavailable" next week, I imagine some D1 refs will be called up. After all it's only the Cup, you'll notice the difference, though. If it's not officially a strike, so I don't expect to see picket lines. As an aside, I wonder how many refs pay tax on their earnings. One - who'd just pissed me off, so i asked the question - claimed that the tax man wasn't interested. I asked if he was drunk

I attended a job interview a couple years ago and was (not so) pleasantly surprised to find a prominent BBL ref on the interview panel. He’s a full time primary school teacher which might give some people some insight on their referee salary.
For the record I didn’t get the job.

Does that indicate that he was listening to all your comments regarding some of his calls?
