Fri 24th Sept - Scorchers v Lions 7:30pm

Due to 'a recent incident involving Covid-19 contact tracing' the London Lions will be playing their NBL D1 team against Surrey Scorchers tonight.
Surely this now puts Scorchers as favourites to win this, especially with their 'short-term' big signings.

Confused as to how you can draft in a D1 team to play a game for a bbl club?

Just as well this isn't a one & done competition! And hopefully getting the 'Covid disruption' out of the way before Europe and the BBL competition heating up this time! Confused as to how you can draft in a D1 team to play a game for a bbl club? Isn't it just a slightly more extreme version of what Leicester Riders do at the end of most seasons after they've already won the Championship?

I wouldn't say more extreme, its exactly that Leicester and Newcastle do

As a linked club players under a certain age (23 I think) are entitled to play up and down.

In the days of Raiders, the Pro team, Div 3 and Development juniors were all under the same Basketball England membership portal (no idea on what current portal looks like) as it's a single club registration.
Subject to the playing up rules of BE, it would be easy to for players to move between NBL and BBL teams, in fact Jose Malo and Jason Carr did it frequently between Div 3 and BBL, it's how it's intended to work.

I wonder if Coach Vear will coach as well rather than Vince?

Yeah, I guess there's a difference between Barking Abbey players being drafted in to fill vacant spots Vs Lions just not bothering at all and sending the entire Abbey team, no?

I wonder if Coach Vear will coach as well rather than Vince? Did you mean to coach as well as Vince? I’m sure they don’t need any more than their 5 (five) existing coaches (as good as Jamo Vear is- he’s better than any of the current 5 though I reckon)

Is it the BBL rule you forfeit the game if you can't put out a side, even if due to Covid?
(I forget what the precedent was last season besides in the later stages when there wasn't sufficient time to reschedule)

So was it a depleted lions squad with some abbey plug ins or a full abbey squad? I hope not the latter..

So was it a depleted lions squad with some abbey plug ins or a full abbey squad? I hope not the latter.. A full Barking Abbey squad, led by Coach Vear and with Vince co-coaching/interfering. A tremendous win for the BA squad. I’m now expecting social media campaigns for them to replace the Lions ‘A’ team. And for them to be called in to redesign the logo.

What an astonishing result!? Are Scorchers that bad or did Barking just play out of their skins?
**** this covid nonsense btw. They're young professional athletes in peak physical condition, just let them get it, have no serious symptoms as they're all double jabbed, and move on. We've got to start living with this disease and dumb **** like this is not the way to go about it.

We've got to start living with this disease and dumb **** like this is not the way to go about it. I’m not sure it’s that simple. The Lions team weren’t able to play due to ‘a recent incident involving Covid-19 contact tracing’ and due to ‘NHS regulations’ were unable to play today. Given self isolation is no longer required of close contacts, as long as they’re fully vaccinated and produce a negative test result, I’m interpreting the statement as not all of the Lions team are fully vaccinated and therefore don’t qualify for not having to self isolate. It’s been said they’ll be on court against Plymouth on Sunday though. Regarding whether Surrey underperformed or Lions II over performed… I’d say a bit of both. But given Lions II weren’t expected to win this, I’d say they rightfully take the prize.

Maybe it means either don’t write pissed or at least proof read your drivel.
