Certainly not the most exciting game, Lions did enough to get a comfortable win but didn't really exert themselves. Plymouth fans are going to have a tough season but the Guys they have can't give anymore, they need to really get behind this team & hope their luck can change. With no Americans,no Okoro and no Dusha after injury in the 2nd, it was going to be pretty impossible. I almost felt sorry for PJ!
It's difficult to tell from a game like this how good Lions can be. Isaiah Reese looks the pick of the new bunch & it'll be interesting to see how he performs with Justin when he's fit. It's only two games but Washburn doesn't look like the quality Lions need but give it another 3-4 games who knows. Kelley will be very good in the BBL, 7'1", quick, good feet and can jump but I'm not sure how he'll be with the physicality of European basketball. Jordan Williams looks far better when he's playing the 5 spot, he's more involved & gets in the right places, he was on the periphery of the game too much when he was on the floor with Kelley. Dirk Williams finally woke himself from his slumber in the 4th. Everyone else played their part for Lions without really shining although that was possibly Josh's best game in a Lions vest( I say Lions vest but of course, nowhere on the shirt does it mention Lions, just LDN & the nonsensical logo. It does say Lions on their shorts) New game day announcer/commentator today who did a decent job, kept music down when the fans were making a noise & did enough commentary without it taking over the game. Not nearly enough fans for a 1st game back after so long with no basketball but that's down to ticket prices being too high for families & no Groupon or other deals available. Hopefully Lions will look at the marketing/costing soon because large crowds generate excitement & atmosphere & then generate more crowds.

Agree with Saint Pat - Felt for PJ, he did a pretty good job despite the big gap in talent between the two teams.
Thought the atmosphere was pretty good considering the blowout score and terrible PA sound and announcer (didn't agree with Saint Pat on this one).
As far as the Lions (AKA LDN) - Kelly and Resse were the stand out players for the Lions. Kelly seemed to alter everything on both ends, while I think there could be a problem coming for Jordan Robinson getting minutes back from injury, en competing with Resse.
The big takeout for me was the team looked a lot more together and level headed than last years Liggins squad. The style of play felt less run and gun or as reliant on threes as last year. Looking forward to seeing them play against a good team. Still can't see them doing much in Europe - Agree with everyone saying they need a big body inside - Kelly, as good as he's going to be in the BBL, needs more help inside for Europe.
Again - agree with Siant Pat - Thought Washburn was way off. Considering the low level of talent he was playing against, he struggled to make a dent. Becoming a bit of a ball hog to get his stats (which didn't appear). Would have rather seen Chris T get more min's. Dirk Williams looked great but like Saint Pat, only when he wakes up - Not sure he will be the number 1 option (a lot like last year).

Agree completely. £27.50 for a standard adult ticket (side of court). £55 for a courtside ticket. £77 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children). These prices are too expensive for a BBL game, and they're never going to get 5,000 spectators at each game - which they've said is their ultimate goal, at those prices. They either need to reduce the prices to around £15/20 - and make less per ticket but more in total, or bring back the Groupon and other promotional deal to entice people in.

Completely agree - Considering Leyton Orient - not far down the road - Charge 50p for under 10's.

Wow that’s a big target! According to Better (GLL) most paying customers for a BBL game at Copper Box has been 1242. A game versus the Ball twins had 15xx paying. The City Royals team had max paying customers at the Palace of 605 (Figures from my mate at their office so I think reliable)! (And FYI 1000+ is impressive I reckon - I see Riders only had 100 on Sun (if their stats are correct- surely they had more though? Maybe a lot of comps)?

Don't believe a lot of the attendance numbers you read. They're quite often no where close to the actual number (Riders yesterday for example). And I'm fairly sure the the biggest paying crowd for a Lions BBL game is about 2,000. That was in the Ovie Soko days, so I think we can say that a large percentage of that 2,000 weren't there to watch a basketball game. But 2,000 regardless. I agree a target crowd of 5,000 is ambitious. Very ambitious. But there's nothing wrong with being ambitious. But they aren't going to achieve that charging £27 a ticket (not now anyway).

I was there yesterday and I’d say it wasn’t even 500 people there. And that’s for a season opener after a looooog pause for Covid. In a city of 9 million and with roughly 6 million basketball fans in the UK, I think the ticket price is meaningless. Ice Hockey in Sheffield get 5000 and charges about 17.50 and play 30 home games. It comes down to the product and the experience and the Lions fail to attract fans to their product. What are they marketing? If the hook is the best basketball in London and a team that can compete in Europe, they need to change that marketing message because it’s not resonating. They are in a tough spot no doubt

Didn't attend either of Riders games over the weekend. Based on what I could see from the streams the attendances did look a bit disappointing but I'm pretty confident there were more than a hundred there yesterday. I was there yesterday and I’d say it wasn’t even 500 people there. Real glutton for punishment you are paying £27.50 to watch something you already know is utter rubbish and completely unworthy of your time. Or did you explain to them on the doors that you were 'dunkster' and they let you in for free so they could pick your incredible brain for a few hours?

i doubt he really went. And i see his fellow fantasist, the guy who claims the bbl only get 4000 paying fans for the O2 play-offs, is making up numbers again.

fascinating how the reactions were wow looking for 5000 my reaction was wow £77 for a family ticket! so is that really London pricing - or just out of symc pricing with what the market can take?
I reckon at most other clubs there will be minimal difference between a family evening out to the game and one to the cinema so looked up Odeon Streatham - family of 4 to watch James Bond film £36
so why do LDN feel they can be successful in a family market and charging a lot more than a trip to the cinema? Is this the London Knights (hockey) model all over again - its firstly about getting the corporates involved and their expense accounts and the general public and family market are the extra? (Knights played midweek games at times to suit the city of london workers going straight from work and less consideration of if other fans could get across the city in time for face-off time)

Dude, I was there and Copper Box is not far from my apartment. And when I say 500, that was including the team’s personnel! Took my cousins and they couldn’t understand why it was so empty. We split at the half. Shocked they didn’t play Teague or that that other dude that led against Trevino. Not that it would have mattered for attendance. I think there is a huge market opportunity for the right basketball product and as you’ve said before, maybe the women’s team can get some traction as there is a lot of interest in women’s sports. But if Lions men’s team keep getting that type of attendance, they will fold eventually.

Innit funny- he goaded me to show the awful messages he sent. So I did and yet despite how vile they are he still feels the need to be nasty at every opportunity. Takes a special sort of person to be like that.
Again apologies to rest of the board for all this. It’s really not conducive to helping British basketball.

I assume you wont be going back? But if you do, and then complain yet again about how bad it was, more fool you I say.
