Lions barely broke sweat in the 1st half & went in with a decent lead. However, as everyone could have predicted, Scorchers came out 2nd half with far more aggression & commitment, whereas Lions players looked like they couldn't be arsed, went from 22 up to just 10 up, scoring 4 points in the 1st 7 minutes of the 3rd quarter. Inexplicably Lions did not call a time out & let the piss poor performance play out. Eventually they got some buckets & kept Scorchers at arm's length for the rest of the game. If Lions come out so lethargic in the 3rd against a good team, they'll get blown apart. Big plus point for Lions is that the team chemistry looks far better this season. They look far more like a team & responsibility is more easily shared, when Justin returns that will improve more. Liggins was superb last season but he was always the go-to guy, this season we have various players who can take responsibility. Washburn is slowly growing in to the BBL but Kelley is still struggling, although he looked better than he did against Bristol. Great to see Andrew Lawrence back playing & I hope for Scorchers & the BBL that he stays with them for the season, they look far better with him on court. I also have to mention the match officials, who were truly shocking at times tonight. From allowing a player to take 4 free throws when it should only have been 3(eventually corrected, thankfully the table officials could count!), to blatant travels, to jump balls called when neither player had their hands on the ball for more than 1 second, to blowing for a foul & then checking with a another ref who he was going to call the foul on, the list was almost endless & many of the mistakes seemed to originate from one official! It was just incompetent & effected both teams equally.
