I went to my first BBL game in years this season and would have posted about it but the weekend I went all of the posts were arguments between the same people.
Hersey - even if you think you're right, what do you gain from following every single one of DTB and Dunksters posts with attacks on them at this stage?
You've all made comments about eachother but you're the only one carrying it on at this point.

I feel like this is the 10th thread where multiple people have said they’d use the forum more if it didn’t just end up with this ****e all the time
They’re both WUM’s, literally everyone knows this, literally every forum has them, but they’d stop if you didn’t ruin every thread by replying to them, giving them exactly what they want

So let's try and get this back on track... As author of this thread can I be as bold to impose some rules to try and keep us on topic... @hersey427 , drivethebody , (and dunkster, but they appear to have gone), feel free contribute with any valuable discussion but please refrain from responding to each other. First one to do so is basically publicly admitting you're the poison in this forum right now. Please don't, you'll only embarrass yourself. Anyway... Round One. Game Six. So what do we think...
If Lions win, they finish top of the group. If Bayreuth win by less than 10, Lions still finish top of the group. If Bayreuth win by more than 10, they finish top of the group.
Toughest game of the season so far in my opinion. Toughest team, on the road, in front of away fans, and with the title of winning the group on the line.
I'm relatively confident Lions can win the group, I'm just not so sure whether it'll be with a win, or a loss by less than 10.

The difference in potential opponents seems pretty big compared to winning the group or finishing second, so really hope they can get 1st, but either way it’s been an incredible success story so no real pressure tonight imo

Indeed they did. I think the only real disadvantage to winning the group is that you'll like have to play a team in eastern Russia - which isn't great travel-wise (could be something like an 8 hour flight). Other than that, winning the group certainly has advantages.

Am really enjoying all of what Lions are doing in Europe.
However, at the same time, I still don't get what is behind the venture. To me it looks like it's all going to end the same way as at Raiders i.e. in 😭.
I guess at least we're talking London in this scenario, not back-of-beyond Plymouth - what the hell was a millionaire doing throwing wedges at an ultimately going- nowhere setup?
Or maybe I should just enjoy what's here while it's here. But are Lions queering the pitch for any future London or other Europe entrants?

Very few make a profit from it. I don’t see why London Lions are any more risk than every other club that have had money thrown at them, obviously a big amount of them do end up in the ****, but some of them genuinely do grow, And I think there is a pretty clear path to see how lions can become profitable and far bigger asset than when they were bought, Maybe it will all go tits up, and if I had to make a prediction it probably would be that it will, but end of the day people may as well support it while it’s happening, Because I don’t see what else was going to change to stop the BBL being a low-level, low attendance, low security league, if they do go bust or if They end up with Vince back in charge and a budget no bigger than everyone else does it really make a difference, it’s not like teams don’t go bust all the time, What difference does one more make?

This is easily the toughest game in the group, Beyreuth in front of their home fans, knowing they need to win by more than 10! Will Lions hold their nerve? Will they be good enough to push back the early pressure & keep the game close? Will they do enough to make the Beyreuth fans temper their enthusiasm?
Will Reese be fit? Will it matter if he isn't? He's clearly a great player at this level but perhaps this is more the sort of game that Justin is made for.
Lions will need to be at their best, if they are, then they should have enough to win the group.
Last season Lions looked like less than their group of parts(players), this season they look more than their parts, they look like a team. This will be a real gauge on how good they are.

They are much more like a team this year Pat and it's a pleasure to watch.

For those interested in the odds, Bayreuth are favourites to win by 2 or 3 points.

Wow, what a half!! Lions down by 16 because Beyreuth are a different level so far. Probably the best team I've ever seen Lions play. Lions got caught because they had both Teague & Cugini on court at the same time so defensive intensity reduced considerably & there was no stop in play for Reese to come back on. Tough ask in the 2nd half & impossible if Beyreuth continue to play like this but 2 or 3 stops with scores at the other end & Lions can make this very difficult for Beyreuth.
I'd have put Justin on in the 1st half when it was all too frenetic.
Although we're losing I am fully enjoying the game!

For all the talk about crowds, it's not exactly packed out

Shame about the result, and a shame that despite only losing once That they’re going to end up in a much harder group, with a lot worse travel, but still an absolutely resounding success, and six more games against some truly big teams so you cannot complain really

Yeah, I think they're capable of winning a couple of games but it's likely to end there. But I still think it's a success story, they're obviously out-spending the rest of the BBL but they're still up against sides with far bigger budgets.

Outside of Dirk Williams and Isaiah Reese, who both had a great game, I felt like Lions really struggled at times whilst Bayreuth were hitting everything. They were a totally different team from last game.
I’m a little surprised Vince didn’t go deeper with the roster on this one. I totally understand not doing so when those on the court are working, but when it’s not take advantage of the deep bench.
And looking at the stats it looks as if this game, or at least winning the group, could have been lost on free throws. They shot 62%, we shot 40%. Everything was just about equal.

For all the talk about crowds, it's not exactly packed out Germany still has social distancing and crowd limitations. You’re also required to wear a face covering at sporting events indoors. Comparing this game to the Copper Box, crowd wise, isn’t really like for like.

So in the next round Lions go up against... Avtodor Saratov from Russia (one of the longest road trips possible). Bakken Bears from Denmark (who have a history of derailing BBL teams in Europe). Bahcesihir from Turkey (same owners who destroyed the Plymouth Raiders franchise). What a group!

Interested to see the approach of the owners now that phase 1 has been negotiated and better opposition awaits. Will they leave things as they are or make changes. It's clear they could use some greater inside presence ta both end of the court.

Not sure what Teague’s contract situation is, but as good as he has been (even if inconsistent) I’d rather they had a legit big for the next round than another guard, someone who can really grab rebounds and defend stronger post players
