Tough first half (mainly Q1), a lot of midrange shots off broken plays resulting in quick points going the other way.

Tough first half (mainly Q1), a lot of midrange shots off broken plays resulting in quick points going the other way. All been fairly easy for Eagles, don't think we've even really had to play especially well. Kofi will make a big different for Pats once he's up to speed.

Some bright spells, some not so bright spells.
Clearly Eagles treated the Cup as pre season, different side today.

Newcastle’s depth was awesome today, Peel added to this further. But the Pats really battled, our big men are slow and cumbersome but the forwards hustled and our defense was awesome, just transition hurt us from broken offense. Worth the long trip

I was hoping after the Eagles' struggles in the Cup that we'd be in a closer game with our two new additions. Not to be, and a little concerned too.
We shot 17% from 3 and 34% overall, with Ubiaro, Dusha and Hart combining for 17, which should have been Ubiaro's personal haul based on his ppg so far. Bit concerning that he was not able to get going, with more options to keep the help defence honest. Newcastle have seriously been going through the motions in the Cup, given how many can qualify for the later stages, is that competition actually a valuable use of time?
A lot of broken plays from us today, most misses felt like they were from midrange or overly aggressive layups (we missed a tonne). Seemed at times to have gone away from an ability to execute, I know there are two new players, but they should help not hinder. Will chalk it up to a one off.
Just goes to show how great Newcastle were at stopping dribble penetration and cuts today, then getting the ball to beat everyone down the floor for easy baskets.

Newcastle really havent been going through the motions. The fact that they didn’t qualify for the cup qfs will pain them.
They had injuries and Covid and their last 2 cup games were basically meaningless

17% yikes….. tbh as much as a few makes would have made the score at times interesting, I did feel like Newcastle always had another gear to move into. Our bigs really don’t have a soft touch around the basket, and personally Joe Hart was a wasted position on offence. Ubiaro looked cold on the court with Kofi stepping in, and bar a highlight dunk in the 4th tbh it looked like the denzel of previous years. But the team worked their ass off, our defense was good, guys jumping on loss balls etc, team need this first win

I clearly wasn't paying attention this afternoon, is King injured? We missed his energy today for sure.

You indicated that they fact they were going through the motions meant that the cup competition format was somehow a problem. I pointed out that they only went 'through the motions' (as you put it, with fletcher and Williams injured and Vinson cut and Defoe and sayers and Shelton coming back from covid ) was the last two games when the group result was already determined.

Yes. 'Is that competition actually a valuable use of time'?

That's a completely separate question to anything Eagles related though.
