Difficult to comment on this sort of game. No real idea who my starting 5 would be from tonight. Sullivan and Thompson looked like the experienced players they are. Donovan Jack impressed from the new boys. I will save further comment until I see them up against a couple of BBL lineups soon. Solid looking lineup and great potential. Just lacked some 'personality' which I hope is down to 'gelling' which will come in time I'm sure. They improved as the game moved on which will no doubt be down to Rob getting at them. He didn't look 'semi-serious' to me.

Hampton looked decent but barely played the 2nd half from what I recall. Clearly lacking fitness at the moment.
Jack was good on the board, Robertson great on Defense and Clark looks solid.
I'd echo Freebandz' statement about the lack of personality; easy to see why Watson and Trayvonn were crowd favourites. Hopefully as you say, it's just gelling, and someone will emerge capable of some highlight reel plays.

Re lack of personality
Let's bear in mind it's a friendly with a sparse crowd and no atmosphere with nothing to play for and we are winning comfortably
Hard to get up for that and hard for players to get heavily into the game etc
When it counts they will react accordingly as will the crowd
We won't get much tomorrow either
Hampton will bring some when he's firing on all cylinders. I suspect Robertson will - he was non stop encouraging those around him. His 3s didn't fall tonight.
Jack is athletic and played very well tonight however he looks like a quiet, shy type and I would like to see him look more confident in his ability as he certainly played well tonight.
My worry for him is he will face some seriously stronger opponents than tonight (starting with Mike Tuck) and he's not the strongest physically. He will need to be prepared for an absolute battle with him and I'm not sure he's suited to that.
Whereas clearly Thomson will be able to physically take on players like Tuck.
Clark - some glimpses of great passes tonight but im sure there's more to come yet.
Tyler quiet tonight.
Tomorrow night I predict we will win by a bigger margin than tonight as Rob won't accept more sloppiness like at the start of the game
Tonight's was a bigger margin than both our wins over USA select last season despite the sloppiness and we've got more in the tank I believe Nice to see the halftime shootout back on the court. Hope that continues. The kids prefer it to round the corner.

He didn't look 'semi-serious' to me. When I said Rob would approach these games 'semi-seriously' I was simply referring to the way players would be rotated, and minutes distributed. I wasn't suggesting he'd be lounging on the bench all evening with a beer and a hot dog, chatting with fans in the first row. Any coach with a deep-ish rotation is going to use a pre-season friendly against a modest opposition to experiment. Didn't go to the game but it appears from the box score that we did that tonight. Next weekend's fixtures will be approached differently. They'll be treated more or less like regular season games. Which will mean a less even spread of PT, significantly more than 15-20 mins for our best performers, next to no run at all for guys like Gamble and Raheem, etc.

We made a lot of mistakes some of which were down to pressure from the USA. Agree we have a lot more in the tank than we showed tonight. Think this game was more beneficial to Riders because we were made to work harder at times.

We certainly missed quite a few 'open 3's' which by the sounds of last weeks game we were hitting. It's going to be a great season this year for the bbl in general. Lots of new lineups so perhaps some interesting results??? I'm going to put it out there early that DREW SULLIVAN will be this years MVP......... He has a point to prove from last year me thinks.

Looks like they have a pretty decent team this year. Riders very very sloppy but it's 27-24 Riders end of 1. Donovan Jack with three blocks so far. I counted 5 Stats were given as 5 blocked shots for Jack Pretty sure they were all in the first quarter Don't recall any after that? The match commentator only attributed 3 to him on microphone but I spotted 2 more that first quarter I think? Never seen anyone block that many in a match let alone one quarter

He's not the kind of sportsman that's gonna let that shocking decision lie. Mark my words.

Calling it a shocking decision would indicate he was hard done by which he wasnt. Brooks and Fletcher were excellent. I doubt you'll find too many people who think Sullivan was far better than them, if indeed he was at all.
Interestedridersfan offers the theory that coaches will vote for anyone but him. He has won the mvp award at both Leicester and Newcastle so it's difficult to see how a claim like that carries any truth.
He deserved to be in the conversation for mvp. As did several others. Truth is, there wasn't one candidate that was head and shoulders above the rest.
He's not well liked. I think we all know that. Doubt it's actually relevant.

He's upset more people since he won the previous two MVPs guest? Although I rate both Fletcher and Brooks very highly it certainly wasn't a season for Fletch to win the award Fletch should have won it season before IMO I imagine just having a couple of coaches who don't like you is capable of upsetting the result We've debated this before but I think that Riders being the dominant team last season the MVP should come from them Just like it had to come from Eagles last season In fact I think it should almost always come from team that wins the League and will standby that all the time I'm on here I feel the same with football

Giants are also playing tomorrow I think.
I'm sure if anyone wants to discuss the mvp award they will start a thread or I'm happy to start one on your behalf. We can even do a poll if it interests.

The main reason we won by such a margin was the lock down we managed to clamp onto the USA Select's offence. Lost count of how many times the shot clock wound down without them able to put up a decent effort - all down to great D not their inability to shoot. I believe we could be even better in terms of managing our defence this coming season than we have been in the past. Robertson seems to love playing D in particular. He's a joy to watch and will be key to our success.

Tonight unless USA Select can also up their game I think we will win by an even bigger margin As I believe we can play far better in several areas Won't it be one of the other USA Select squads in action tonight - little for them to gain in exposing the same players again? The key against these teams, as noted in the game reports above, is good D. With essentially 5 individuals on court if you can step up with good team D, and move the ball on O, should shut them down and get lots of easy looks

Based on the schedule I have it'll be the same squad. Hersey might be able to confirm?

Riders are playing the A team both days. Unless it was a trialist game I can't see the point in a bbl team playing their other sides.
We've sold a decent amount of tickets. I'm a bit concerned they're expecting Durant and co

I didn't see another squad/team watching from the stands Last season I did They seemed to fully rotate a lot of players last night But I am happy to be corrected if they had another group of players I didn't see that we will face tonight

I'm a bit concerned they're expecting Durant and co Lol They could all play under NBA names. Most fans wouldn't know the difference I reckon ! First time I went to a USA select match I was assuming we were going to get hammered

They have 3 teams over, IRF.
The other 2 are playing elsewhere today. I *think* the red team is their best one.
