I thought king left the riders to return home to la for a job outside of basketball. Turns out he's playing in Canada instead.
Things Leicester fans?

See hes on training roster for an NBA G league team based in Ontario part of the Clippers franchise, down as a 'local tryout'

I doubt a G League - or D League as old fogeys call it - training contract is worth more than Riders were paying. Probably less. But he's living the dream and if a ten days nba contract happened it'd all be worthwhile

Interesting that team also has Torren Jones listed, the guy that was linked with the Rocks but never joined.

Those were the days! Fortunately we definitely saw the best of him in the bbl. Young family he needed to put routes down so was always likely to cross over the Atlantic. Lovely lovely person too.

Think he left for a "real" job opportunity. Maybe he can play basketball alongside that opportunity?
Or maybe that job opportunity wasn't what he expected?

More like living in a dream world if he thinks there's any chance of that happening. Surely no one could be mental enough to believe that Taylor King is even fringe NBA standard.

If king was a fringe nba player he would've been playing euroleague not bbl. And I'm pretty the max a g league player can earn is $25k . I bet he was getting more than that

He'd off been on decent money in Lithuania the previous year. Think the Riders move was more for family reasons

D League money has gone up in line with NBA wages after the recent TV deals. There's more money, and arguably better Americans, in euro league but some players don't want to leave USA and while they're playing D League there's still that slim chance of being in the right place at the right time

I don't think so You don't think Taylor was on more than 25k at Riders? Wow im staggered- would have thought a starting 5 guy in any BBl team would be on much more than that? (Have no idea personally btw). I suppose for 9 months with free accom and free car (do Riders still do the car deal)? I guess not too bad but I'd have thought initially a lot more!

Starting 5 salary for most BBL teams won't be anywhere near 25k. A lot of BBL teams start with Rookie imports - they'll be lucky to be on half of that.

Would be fascinating to learn about how clubs are run etc. Must be a decent income stream for clubs like Riders though? Ave crowd say 1500 paying £10-15 = £15k ish + per home game? Overheads not huge- big team of willing volunteers, own court (with associated costs of course but helped by City Council), Obvious travel costs to away games. Decent amount of merchandise sold and lots of sponsorship (in kind I wood imagine like accommodation and players cars)? Some income from school coaching in the surrounding area? Annual franchise fee? Any insight from anyone on here?

It's so difficult to predict income/outgoings. Some thoughts....
For example, Rookie imports don't cost that much in the grand scheme of things. However, if you've got senior Brits in your team (Say... Andy Thomson, Kieron Achara, Darius Defoe) then their wages could be much higher (nb, it's an educated guess, before anyone starts tweeting/FB ranting about it).
Similarly with tickets. If you're getting 1500 punters through the door every week, how many are season tickets? how many are groupons, how many are freebies?
Arena overheads is a difficult one. If you're Rocks, Eagles etc then you're hiring a court. If you're Riders then you don't have court hire to contend with but there are a lot of other overheads to consider (utilities, cleaners, court maintenance, etc).
Cars are a good one to get contra sponsorship. I think accommodation tends to cost the club though (unless you're Wolves?).

But a nett grand a month when you don't pay rent or bills is OK if you you're 24 with no kids. If you're willing to cook a bit of pasta rather than live on takeaway it helps as well

My only insight would be in general that most sports clubs I've encountered work their butts off and still lose money or barely break even
And it's a real labour of love for all concerned
Or in the case of the rich football club owners a very expensive hobby
I think you would be surprised how tough it is to run a BBL basketball club and make the figures add up
Over the years without injections of personal cash from various BBL owners etc I expect some clubs wouldn't exist now
And that's why you will have often have seen sports clubs including basketball clubs change names and reform etc as they go bust etc
Definitely it's not a gold mine in BBL whether you are near the top of the tree or near the bottom IMO
In fact the opposite and very hard work indeed

One of the main pickups for Riders away game is on the Jelson homes estate where several players and Rob etc all live and I'm sure that's courtesy of the sponsorship deal
