Like any sport there are some games that will be one-sided / dull and there will be others that are gripping.
Basketball has end to end action and there is always something going on. But you will always get the brigade who simply see it as a sport where one teams goes and scores and the other team goes up the other end and scores until the final buzzer goes.
Much of that is down to the general ignorance of the sport, which is common with many sports in this country. People have an opinion and they are loathed or not interested in changing.

On a par with snooker and darts - FFS have those people ever actually watched a live game or an entire game on the tv?

I was listening to Talk Sports break fast show a couple of weeks back and Alan Brazil and Micky Quinn were giving tickets away for the NBA game at the O2. Quinn started talking about when he played for Portsmouth FC and being taken to see a match at the affiliated basketball team. I was waiting for some great free publicity for the BBL only for Quinn to describe it as being like watching kids football. Pretty disappointing that he couldn't appreciate the athletic ability at least. Then again was he an athlete!

I once tried to watch 20:20 cricket and left at half time I could not see what the players were doing as too far away, and although pretty fast paced for cricket, did not float my boat Give me action packed basketball any day

Far too narrow minded sports wise in this country.

He fancies himself as a horse trainer yet got done for malnurishing them the fat bellend. Wouldn't listen to a word he says. In sum, watching a game live at the event is far far better than watching it on tv. Which is something you cant always say about football. I get bored watching regular season nba basketball on tv because it feels like they're going through the motions and don't give a damn. Genuinely prefer watching the BBL on unilad than regular season nba but I guess that's because of a vested interest...

Tend to agree with your last paragraph. People have a perception of the sport but probably haven't seen it. We're force-fed so much football that's its no wonder folk have no interest in any other sports. I wonder how the Rocks manage to get decent crowds when they're up against the best supported football league in Europe.

Yes.
Of course if a game is one sided, like any sport, it can be tedious. If the team you follow is at the bottom of the league it can be hard to watch, again applies to any sport. I like football as well but have found watching the Premier League rather monotonous in recent times. If a top 6 team plays a team from outside the top 6 then the lower ranked team considers it has done well to salvage a draw and so they 'park the bus'. Even Man City monopolising possession as they often do hardly excites the neutral who wants to witness a contest. I wonder if similar time constraints will ever be introduced where you need to get the ball in the opposition half, no passing back into your own half, must have an attempt on goal within a set time etc..
But yes the BBL is exciting in my opinion, it is what I watch. I don't follow the NBA, but I do like to watch the NCAA games on TV. I also find Euroleague games to be entertaining with fanatical Greek and Serbian fans part of the spectacle.

I love football and cricket. Football is at saturation point for me though - I prefer non-league football because it's wholehearted endeavour not sullied by the obsession with ££££. I watch and play cricket. Totally different pace but fascinating tactical nuances in there. And yes BBL is exciting (how can you watch Dirk Williams dunk and not appreciate the skill, beauty and brutality all at the same time?). Agree with Bigz that NBA seems like going through the motions at times (even found that in the London game). I have just booked to see Magic v Bulls at Easter because I'm there on holiday but doubt I'll enjoy it as much as the UCF game I saw a few years ago.

Before I saw it I thought it was a sub standard American sport for tall people! Very exciting to me and a great atmosphere at the games. However - not many get the opportunity to see it and live coverage is not the same as being there.

The poll that is referred to said athletics is the most exciting sport which obviously is a result of the Bolt factor and to an rxtent Mo of course. These two have now retired of course.
With Bolt - stadiums sell out but without him they will struggle to get anywhere near half full the Olympic Stadium

However - not many get the opportunity to see it and live coverage is not the same as being there. Think you are absolutely right there. Being at a game is completely different from live tv coverage no matter how good that is. I also believe that many people don't realise how difficult/skilful it is to shoot a basket. They look at scores like 95:89 and think it must be incredibly easy. I usually suggest they try it themselves by just standing close to a hoop with no defender and attempt to score - 10 goes and they soon get the picture. First live game I went to I was hooked. Think it was Planters v Solent Stars at Granby Halls. It was magic and I've loved it ever since.

It is exciting when the score changes frequently but when it's a blowout it can get rather boring.
I enjoyed going to Rocks games.
