Im talking about mileage, not age - MJ played what, 15 seasons TOTAL? With about 5 years off in between them all (and a year injured). Kareem was still pretty good at the end yeah. And he and Malone didn't have the advantage of all the advances in conditioning, advanced stats etc that guys today have that helps keep them as tip top as possible. Malone and Stockton were a pair of freaks - the number of games they missed between them due to injury for Utah was under 10 I think!

I thought that might be what you meant. Malone certainly put in a lot of gym work so maybe his conditioning was a little ahead of his time. Stockton was incredibly durable too.
Jordans load in the seasons he played was easily as high as Lebrons - if not higher. Also the physical defending he was on the end of would have taken some toll.
Overall Lebron is doing very well. I just don't see him declining physically as quickly as his desire might go.

Yeah, goes to show these guys need to tread more carefully when making political commentary (Pop and Kerr take note). Even worse is that it's the Rockets, China's darling team. However the NBA could use its relationship with China to try and do a bit more politically, especially when it comes to human rights. But as ever its all about the money first, second and last.

Morey's right, though. It seems that the socially aware NBA doesn't give a toss if telling the truth offends the Chinese authorities.

Wow, CCTV have pulled the NBA games from TV now. How ridiculous. Be interesting to see if the league goes back next year. Silver is in an almost impossible position here, he's got to try and appease the Chinese while backing Morey and the right to free speech at the same time. And clearly the Chinese aren't buying it.

He doesn't have to appease the Chinese. It is tricky. They have at best a questionable record on human rights and are a dictatorship. Many would say it is far worse than that. MOney versus morals.

That's what I meant - from a financial perspective he needs to appease them, the Chinese market is huge for the NBA. However I would think this will eventually blow over and the market will still be there - Chinese NBA fans are unlikely to stop following the league because of this issue, no matter how much they might have taken offence to it.

Yes from that perspective he is in a difficult situation if the owners (who he is answerable to) put him in it.
Are fans that cannot access your product via a conbasketball kited media and internet actually fans? Guess we will see how annoyed they are!

I thought it rather sucked they (China) cancelled the NBA cares events today, designed to do good for their own people, including a special needs group. That's just cutting off your nose to spite your face. They've basically cancelled everything except the games themselves, which I'm a bit surprised are still happening.
Meanwhile Trump has ripped into Kerr and Pop for their measured responses on the issue. Not saying Trump is right (perish the thought) but those two love having their say on political issues and seem to forget they're in sport, not politics - so it was always going to catch up to them.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-49995985Good summary by the BBC of the situation. As for Kerr and Pop - I hugely admire their willingness to speak their mind in a world where so many are scared to do so. They have very strong positions within their organisations and very successful careers behind them that allow them to be a little more outspoken than some. I notice they managed to avoid controversy during the recent FIBA World Cup though. As for the friendly games I'm surprised that they've also not been cancelled. Perhaps senior officials in China had tickets and are big fans? Just a thought.......

You're not in sport, doesn't stop you commenting on it though....
Genuinely though, if the NBA/China/anyone else want to stop people having opinions on things they can f*ck off.

Not saying Trump is right (perish the thought) but those two love having their say on political issues and seem to forget they're in sport, not politics - so it was always going to catch up to them. Not wading into every single row without a thought of the consequences isn't a bad thing. wading into every single row without a thought of the consequences is Trump thing, though. Based on that, I reckon Kerr & Pops are probably better politicians than Trump. Maybe the president of the USA should be worrying about things such as a war he's just kicked off in Syria - crapping on former allies in the process - and the possibility of impeachment. But anyway It's a massive overreaction from China, but shows the difficulty the NBA will always have working with the Chinese. They're not an ordinary company dealing with them, they simply can't control what everyone connected with their organisation say in public. But China wants the NBA, when their pram is entirely empty of toys and a bit of time has passed this will be quietly patched up. Noticably the NBA China games are still on

Now Hong Kong protestors are burning LeBron jerseys and chanting derogatory remarks about him. I thought his comments were really quite measured and reserved but he's still upset these people. I don't think anyone can say anything and avoid doing that but again it's an over reaction. They think he's only motivated by money, and money is made in china. Im pretty sure LeBron can get by without whatever money he gets from the Chinese market! I just think he was expected to say something about it, but did the right thing by waiting to return to the US.

I think keeping quiet might have been LeBron's best move. Take note Samuel

So what are we thinking for this season then? Not too long to go. What teams/players are you looking forward to watching? Who do you think will be a surprise? How much will we bet that Harden/Westbrook have a fight over the ball at some point?

Well here's the teams I think make the playoffs, not in order (that's too tough!) just the top 8 for each side:
West: Clippers Lakers Warriors Jazz Spurs Nuggets Rockets Thunder (I know I know...but I think the blazers might implode this year)
East: Celtics Raptors Pacers Heat Bucks 76ers who cares who cares
Probably Nets and pistons.
Looking forward to seeing the Rockets - last time the 2 most ball dominant players in the league played together was Iverson and Melo in Denver, which didn't really work out too well. But we'll see. Boston and New Orleans will be good to watch along with Denver. Expecting big things from Giannis, as in even bigger than last season!

I think you’re probably right with the teams you mention. I hope the East is competitive with each other at least.

I might have short changed Orlando actually. After years of doing nothing it's easy to forget about them but they should build on last season's success.

Season tips off Wednesday and what could’ve been a mouth watering opener with Lakers v Clippers is going to be somewhat diminished by the absence of George and to a lesser extent Kuzma. Also real shame Zion out for a few weeks too as he would’ve added some much needed early season excitement.
I think the early runnings might be a bit more interesting than usual by NBA standards due to the trades in the summer. I’m very curious about how the Warriors will fare.....expecting a lot of scoring from Steff Curry though. He will be fun to watch.
A friend who generally prefers the NCAA and women’s games asked me if NBA league pass was worth getting. As a massive NBA fan I said yes.....but wait until Xmas when it really gets going. Personally I wish they’d reduce the amount of games and focus on quality not quantity but it will never happen!

Gutted about Zion, and concerned he could be the next Greg Oden. Really hope not. That and PGs injury do take the shine off opening night a bit.

25 games seems harsh given the follow up test didn't reveal any other banned substances, and that one is only banned because it can mask substances that are performance enhancing. I'm inclined to believe it was a genuine error and therefore the ban should be reduced. Little bit surprised at the Sun's start though, a bucket away from being 2-0.
How about the talk of Golden state missing the playoffs? I'm not buying that but they're not contenders anymore, that's pretty clear. Clippers looking excellent so far and PG isn't even playing.
