The very few of us that have contributed to the NBA forum have been kicking around the idea of having a NBA thread instead of the forum in the hope of drumming up some debate and discussion on matters NBA. It seems to have worked well for the NBL so worth a try! So following on from the finals the big summer talking point, just for a change, is of course where will Mr Lebron James end up playing next season and what impact will it have on the rest of the NBA. how Houston could get LebronPersonally I don't think he is a good fit with Harden AND Paul. Perhaps one of them but like them he (up until now) has dominated the ball as a defacto point guard for his teams. They both do as well. All are superb players to say the least so of course could adapt. Particularly it would be good to see Lebrons load lightened by focusing his game more (think Ronaldo at Real Madrid). We also have the draft coming up! Lets see how this works out.

I think this is a good idea. I'm not into NBA enough to go looking for threads about it. But I'm definitely into it enough to post here.
I love watching the draft. I think it's brilliant
One of the best things about US sport. The chance for the worst teams to get first chance to sign a superstar
Onto LeBron - when he made his move to Miami a few years ago I loved the build up and announcement and how it got so many fans glued to their TVs in the US hoping and praying he chose them
It's going to be huge whoever he chooses once again

Happy with the new direction, but where are the NBA posts from the past few days gone now?

Anyone following the Draft?
Doncic should go #1 but Phoenix have got taken in by Ayton. Don’t get me wrong, he could be a good offensive player, but putting your hopes in a post scorer who has bad defensive instincts because of his incredible physique seems like a move from 5 years ago....

Maybe, I get the sense there is a slight shift happening back towards big men posting up though. I mean not from your Warriors or your Rockets but with Embiid coming in and other talented bigs like Porzyngis, Gobert and Towns coming through (as well as established bigs like Cousins, AD, Jokic, Drummond...can I throw Adams in here too? ) there could be a shift over the next 5-10 years in how the game is played (and why not, it is always evolving).

It's brilliant Porzyngis has done so well
I felt so bad for him when his own fans were booing as he got drafted. Great that he proved the doubters wrong.

Somewhere for hersey to put his NBA blogs as well Sam scared me off on the NBA board. But you're wish is my command. My take on LeBron, but only one man knows the real answer.
"Onto LeBron - when he made his move to Miami a few years ago I loved the build up and announcement and how it got so many fans glued to their TVs in the US hoping and praying he chose them"
Most "NBA people" found "The Decision" cringeworthy and completely OTT. The return to Cleveland was much more low key, he seemed to have learned. We're not going to get the announcement via a two-line email, but I think we'll get something similar this time.

Looked to me like that announcement stopped the nation. Cringeworthy or not and however he does it this time it's going to be headline news all day of course. And a set of fans somewhere are going to be celebrating big time.

Following it more from an NCAA than an NBA perspective - although it frustrates me to a degree as it focuses on the impact of an individual rather than the team as a whole. Yep, some of the analysts have an 'interesting' perspective on the potential of the draftees. Some appear to be low on Doncic because he is already good, so he has no upside, whereas players like Ayton, Bagley, Carter et al although flawed in key aspects of the game and not bringing a whole lot of success (comparative to expectations) to their college programmes are elevated as they potentially have potential. Biggest surprise for me is Jaren Jackson Jr who wasn't a massive contributer on an inconsistent Spartans team. His biggest strengths appear to be that he is big and young... Having said all that there is definitely a lot of talent available in the top 10 - looking forward to see Bamba in the big league.

Great blog as always Hersey, but not sure why Lakers are not in your article - if his kid is signed up for school there then surely that must be significant. Surely LeBron is not into setting up smokescreens...

I had to stop somewhere. Though I like the idea he goes to Knicks, and makes them trade Ball just to piss his dad off

Surely LeBron is not into setting up smokescreens... Both LA reporters and the school itself are claiming there is no truth in the rumours Lebron's son has signed up to join the school (although they would love it to happen!) I think LeBron is too worldly wise to think that signing his son up to a school wouldn't get out in advance of any career move. It would be a schoolboy error so to speak (no pun intended!) And I think it's too disrespectful to his own fans for them not to hear from him first on any decision he makes. I don't think there's anything in this. Doesn't mean lakers aren't an option of course

Great blog Hersey. I’m still not convinced though that Houston is a great fit for him. CP3 and Harden already dominate huge amounts of ball and so does Lebron at his best. The big advantage the Warriors have is that all 5 of their best players do not need the ball in their hands alll the time to be very effective. Lebron and CP3 could adapt but making Paul a catch and shoot player is a massive under utilisation of his on court game management.

Take a lot of pressure of him, allow Lebron to run less minutes and add a further dimension to Houston’s offence. Just think what Harden could do when the defence don’t know whether he’ll drive to basket or not

Doncic should go one, look what he's achieved at 19 and seeing porzingis, Giannis got no where near that level and they are stars in the nba I do secretly hope he falls to 4 as I think he would be a great fit on the grizzlies who are trying to win now with Conley and Gasol!!

Grizz will never win with Conley and Gasol. Both are mid tier stars and are over the hill.
They’re chance of winning with those 2 was about 4 years ago.
As for Lebron. He has to go to Houston. I’m confident he’ll take a pay cut in order to add some more rings. Not sure how I’d feel if he did, the east would become a joke, effectively the Finals would become GSW v Houston.
But anything to bring GSW down a peg or 2. They’re smugness is becoming a little too much to stand atm.

They might drive the standard of the East up and could probably push GSW a bit harder than the Cavs. Obviously that is all subject to Roster change. Another point draft wise, after going cold in the 2nd half of the season, Trae Young seems to be mentioned as a potential top 4 pick (particularly with MPJ acting increasingly as if he's a crock) - a big achievement for an undersized pg who was off most people's radars coming out of high school.
