interesting dilemma - must he go or not? Clippers to an oldie like me are perennial losers. Rivers while may not have delivered the conf finals must go down as their most successful coach ever.
I'd be happy to see him pop up in Houston.

Decent appointment by 76ers getting Rivers. His leadership and experience will be a boost to them.

Agreed.....although maybe his magic works better in the East and they will be the next Celtics? It is strange how quickly they have hired somebody who, lets be honest, has been sacked for serial failure with talented squads. I personally think he is a good coach and probably was a bit unlucky at times in his tenure. Cannot deny though losing those leads is a real stain on his CV though. In other news the below has to be some of the biggest claptrap I have ever heard from an NBA player. www.espn.co.uk/nba/story/_/id/30018058/see-brooklyn-nets-having-head-coachNash has no hope if his two stars are talking like this already.

Heat looked understandably demoralised as they trooped off court and who could blame them with being 2-0 down in the series? They have injuries to key players yet they only lost by about 12 points and AD + LJ played out of their skins. Is there still hope for Miami to beat Lakers in game 3?

I may be proved wrong but I think the score line was misleading. I never really felt the Heat were in that game. Always chasing and when even a glimmer of hope surfaced Lebron and AD slammed the door shut again.
I think they certainly need to be telling the, selves that narrative. If Dragic and BAM can come back then surely they can find a way to win a game.
There was a moment between the 8th and 6th min of the 4th quarter when LA stopped scoring. That was the Heats biggest opportunity. Down 11 Herro had the opportunity for a big 3, turned it down and drove in committing an offensive foul. Next play Lebron gets a put back and then AD score on a lob I think and the momeant was gone.
Will be interesting to see, in the bubble, how human nature plays a part. Do the Heat players really believe? The focus for the Lakers must be incredible to close this out and not only win but go home. Do the Heat believe they can win 4 games , possibly even 4 in a row against Lebron James? With all his experience backed up by a player they seem to have little answer for? Supported by 2 players with championship pedigree in Rondo and Green?
Just as an aside I loved the clip of Haslem laying into the Heat during a timeout. They could do with him being even 5 years younger!

Watched a great WNBA performance from Seattle Storm in first leg of season final. Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird were just on fire. Bird set a new playoff game record for assists (16). Game 2 should be a good one!

So when will the NBA start again? Hersey in his blog has highlighted a reported desire from NBA for 18th Jan. Meanwhile the less reputable Brian Windhorst at ESPN claims it is still largely unknown. I would be very surprised to see them going to a bubble again even if fans are not allowed. I cannot see the players agreeing to it. Particularly precious souls like Kyrie and KD. The EPL has successfully managed to play home and away matches and carry out training without cancelling games as have other elite football leagues. I suspect the NBA will be looking to those models to see how it can work. Of course it comes down to a lot of testing and the discipline of the players. In that regard I cannot see that NBA players are any better or worse than footballers! Whether there is any real benefit in playing home and away fixtures without fans is a bigger debate. I would imagine the set up at Disney was expensive but not impossible to replicate around the leagues venues. I agree with Hersey that there would be a lot of advantages in bubbles if there are no fans. I just cannot see the players agreeing to it.

Yep that's an interesting debate They would effectively be giving up many months of their personal lives No doubt instead of a bubble regular testing is viable with the money available in NBA. However, testing not perfect yet and has time delays. One of the main reasons to stay in a bubble is to reduce the chance of catching Covid in the first place More and more sports teams in Europe are getting players with Covid now and it's normally several players and staff at the same time The first one passing it on to others etc before they realise Will end up being lots of games either cancelled or played with multiple players/staff missing Which at the highest levels of sport will mean the club's that have the finance to spend the most on testing and great Covid protocol will lose the least amount of players It's a whole new level of injury prevention for the clubs. Which they already invest huge amounts in as it is Covid could lose more playing days than muscle strains next season in most sports

Yet so far no EPL games cancelled due to Covid since the last season restarted.

That depends on how bad they get it. There's no simple answer

You can see there point though. This year they've already had to work at least 2 months and in some cases almost 5!! I mean its a lot to ask when you are only earning millions of dollars a year to be fair. They should go on strike. :-)

Staying completely neutral because I'm not an nba player so I dont have a dog in this fight but am i right in thinking players are just asking for their usual time off between the playoffs finishing and the season starting ?

Basically, yes. Although the counter argument is that they've already had a few months off mid-season this year that they wouldn't normally have had. So they've had roughly the same amount of time off this year as any other year, just not all at once.

Ok I thought so Questions for those against it that were furlough this year. Was all your holiday entitlement removed and you thought that was acceptable too? I've fortunately been working throughout, so wouldn't know. But it's a good question - I know someone who is still furloughed, so hasn't worked a day in over 7 months. When he does return to work (assuming he does) does he have a load of banked annual leave he's allowed to take? Maybe it should be pro rata-ed or something? I don't know, I feel we're going off topic!

Back to basketball - I see Houston Rockets have announced Stephen Silas (Asst Coach at Dallas) as their new head coach. Bit of a blow to Chris Finch. And a shame as it would have been pretty impressive to have 2 BBL alumni as NBA head coaches next season.
