Hi everyone, just on a bit of a fact finding mission. How do supporters clubs work at your club, are they fan led or run by the club and what kind of activities do they get involved in? I'd like to be involved in something for our club but wanted to know how it works for other teams. Thanks in advance. 👍

We have a very active Giants fans Facebook group with match day threads etc.
We even had one this afternoon for the cub final where our coach was online asking questions etc.

I think Raiders, Rocks, Wolves, Giants and Sharks all have FB groups. They vary in quality, aims and club involvement.
Have I missed any?

Wolves have a fairly large one although similar to a lot of forums it’s often the same names posting. It’s basically turned into a bitching group with many now not even reading it. Guess that will change when Wolves sort themselves out. Don’t think the club have anything to do within though purely fan run

Depends what you want. Some are set up by thr club i dont like that choice as fsns feel they can't express themselves where ad a suporters ran page seems a good balance as long as mediated properly

Ours is fan led too, do the wolves group get involved in arranging trips to away games. You always have a lot of fans coming to games against us, I wondered if there was a coach organised or they all made their own way.

The Riders supporters group runs the tuck shop at the home games and Oz does the 50/50 and away coach travel. Amongst other things. In BBL terms I think they raise 30k profit a season for the club. Which is huge in BBL income terms.
Maybe one of them will come on here and explain more?

We have a Facebook group but that's all. Not a proper supporters club and we haven't for a long time now.
Having spoke to the owners tho I know it's something they'd love to have again but as said above it needs to be fully fan run and mediated

I have been to the tuck shop and it was fab, at the moment we don't have much room for additional stands but it's a great idea and I liked how affordable the treats were. 👍 Yes it's be great to find out more if possible, thanks for the info.

That's what we've been doing but it's a shame for those who can't drive to miss out.

Not sure about Eagles, historically volunteers would help out with most of the setup.
but with the ECA having Newcastle College next door (and now links), I imagine most positions
will be filled by trainees in retail, food and sport/leisure science ... amongst other things.
The oota still have a big involvement with the club (and probably always will)
Not sure about the supporters club ... vaguely remember one a decade ago, but I could be wrong.

It seems the days of real rather than virtual supporters clubs might have gone. Another reason to miss Pete Jaques. The days of pawprint being sold by supporters clubs at their own stands in venues and of course the annual end of season supporters club weekend basketball tournament.

The Eagles fan club arranged away travel and tickets and end of season player awards years ago, much of it run by the Mowbray family. Sadly no more to my knowledge with Whatabev providing the online function for non-Facebook dinosaurs like me. RIP Pawprint

RIP Pawprint That's a shame, as a smaller club I think it would be great for us to encourage more fans to away games. I think it's good to have a few different ways for people to keep in touch as well, we already have a facebook group but a website would be fab as well.

No the wolves group never organise anything, I think they tried a few times and got let down and saw it wasn’t cost effective. We do have a decent travelling support for Bristol games as it’s the closest and it generally tails off to single figures the further away you get. Everyone makes their own travel arrangements.

Thanks everyone for your advice and guidance, the Bristol Flyers supporters club is now in full swing and took our first away trip on Sunday to the fantastic hosts, Surrey scorchers.
