I am really pleased with this appointment. What Matt Newby achieved on a shoestring at Leeds Force was quite remarkable - he will have far greater resources at his disposal in Worcester and he could be on the verge of building something great. Perhaps this really is the beginning of the "New Era", which us Wolves supporters were promised prior to last season. Despite the results being awful for pretty much the whole season, the supporters turned up in great numbers for every game to support the guys on court and the club really did have to make a statement of intent this season, because I'm not so sure a repeat of last year's debacle would have been tolerated - they seem to have pulled the rabbit out of the hat with this appointment and I cannot wait to see the new roster - hopefully assembled by Matt Newby.

Wouldn't exactly say rabbit out of the hat. He's been out of the game for a few years and has actively applied for the job so I wouldn't say its Worcester's fantastic head hunting prowess by any means.
That said, for what Worcester want I don't think I could pick anyone better. The guy knows how to run a successful uni programme (Leeds Met rose through the NBL relatively quickly) and with the resources available to him at Worcester on paper it looks a deal made in heaven.
That said, it could all turn very quickly depending on how involved the Uni want to get in the recruitment.

Great appointment for what the organisation want, good coach, great at leading whole clubs forward. Still think there will be discontent from fans by midseason and they will miss the playoffs.

Marek Klassen was one of the first to congratulate him on twitter
Wonder if he will be one of his signings

Must have significantly more budget for players than Leeds had. And he's learnt how to wheel and deal. See no reason why he wouldn't make the playoffs at the very least. I'm sure in time he will be looking for trophies as well. Wolves used to be challengers not long ago.

He's just not been coaching in the BBL for a couple of years - perhaps he has been waiting for the right job to tempt him back in. I agree that the potential meddling with recruitment could become an issue, but hope that this was all sorted out and agreed prior to him being appointed.

Two years away from any form of open age (let alone professional) coaching is a long time in sport in my opinion. On court wise I think it will take him some time to get back into the swing of it. And that includes recruitment. Does he still have the best contacts after two years out? I was luke warm on his recruitment of overseas players anyway if I'm honest, but granted he was far more budget restricted than he will be at Worcester.
I don't think BBL wise its the most clear cut case of instant success everyone thinks it will be - but Worcester will be made up because he can direct the sh*t out of a university infrastructure.

Well, after last year, it would be hard not be an instant success in comparison.

Don't forget he had assistance from Samit Nuruzade in his first year at Leeds.

Genuinely does deserve all the success he gets though.

Something that backfired on us last year on a big way. If Newby can come in and make it less of a dictatorship we may see a more settled roster for 19/20.

Encouraging start with Kofi provided he's part of the orchestra and not being relied on as the conductor......
