For me, Royals should be doing everything they can to get this deal done. They need to find a way of filling that venue and it may be that attracting non-basketball fans is the best way to do that (lowering their ticket prices would also help). Who knows, people who have never watched basketball may go simply to see "Ovie from Love Island" and get hooked on the whole game experience and return again and again. On the other hand, they might visit the dated Crystal Palace once and think that was one time too many. Even being allowed to have 2 higher paid Brits on top of the 200K team cap that www.hoopsfix.com/2018/10/bbl-salary-cap/ says, would the Royals be able to have Lawrence and MBA and Ovie and stay within the cap, never mind Hamilton as well? I wouldn't be convinced MBA will be back there next season.

There is the small matter that the Bbl salary cap hasn't been enforced once in 25+ years. And if ovie took Royals over the cap but led to big turnouts why would the bbl screw things up?

I feel fairly confident in predicting neither Ovie or MBA will be at Royals this season! I'm not quite so confident in predicting that they won't be in the BBL either but it wouldn't surprise me at all, particularly one of them.

Also Lions have retweeted the Sky clip of him saying he’ll be playing in the UK, which the Royals haven’t... #sherlock

Gonna look pretty stupid if he doesn't sign after all the feeble will he, won't he online. My feeling is that it's all in the bag already.

Come on guys, I said at the beginning of the month that he was signing for Lions, the puppet master is just hyping up the rumour.

Given Ovie's media presence & earning potential at the moment, I can't believe anyone really thinks that anyone but him & his management company are calling all the shots regarding when & if he'll be announced by Lions.

I would imagine it's a somewhat complicated deal. Image rights, percentage of merchandise, missing training for media appearances etc. Ultimately any salary he makes from basketball will be small fry compared to the 900k deal he's just signed with ASOS.

So, still no news yet. And both Lions and City Royals start their seasons this weekend. Does this mean negotiations are still ongoing, Ovie Soko won’t be playing in the BBL this season (at least to start with), or that we’ll get a big announcement in the next few days?

Depends how quickly he gets knocked out of strictly come dancing. I think he could at least get all the way to Blackpool myself

Come on now, enough with the jokes. I’ll admit, having never watched Love Island, the thought of one of its contestants playing for Lions made me feel a bit… well, embarrassed. But the more I thought about it, and the more research I did, I actually think him signing for Lions (or any BBL team) would probably be a good thing. He’s a VERY good player (maybe the best we’ve had in the league for years?). And the media hype around him would certainly increase awareness of the BBL – which can only be a good thing, right? And, he’s British.

And, he’s British. As I've said from the start I hope he signs for Lions. Vince would love all the spotlight it may or may not bring. Problem is he won't know at any stage what offers are round the corner - he's one of those C list celebrities who could easily get offered celebrity big brother or I'm a celebrity etc And he has to milk everything he can get whilst he is flavour of the month Very unpredictable how many games he will play if he signs. Very hard to plan or build a team for the season if he does sign.

I'm sure he'd do a great job even as a part-time player. But it's looking like that won't happen because people keep chucking cash at him. This isn't a great time in his career to take a year off (the fact that he didn't feel able to do himself justice for GB is telling) but he'll earn more in the next year than he would in the rest of his time as a basketball player.

Maybe you’re right, maybe next season is more plausible – when he’s getting less ‘media’ work but still wants to stay (and play) in the UK.

And, he’s British. There's not a coach in the BBL who won't be sick with envy when he sees what interest Ovie will generate for the club he signs with. I would change that to "owner" A coach will just want to coach all the players together all of the time and not be disrupted by a star player going missing from traveling with the team or training or tactical meetings etc due to other work etc. Or how much sleep they got the night before! Something like that would seriously mess up all of Robs systems and plans I'm sure Other coaches may not be as bothered or precise about how they prepare for games etc Owners meanwhile they might not care as much about all of the above For Ovie at some stage he may have to retire from basketball full stop sadly This week he's doing fashion shoots as new brand ambassador for asos That's going to be serious money and serious work commitments. Long days etc.
