"Earlier this summer, founding general manager Nhamo Shire also left with club chiefs now having less than one month to confirm a roster and venue for the new British Basketball League campaign."
No players OR venue yet? Nor coach now!!
Last week on Twitter they promised some exciting news - can't imagine this is it??

Didn't they announce Will Neighbour recently?
That club is dead and buried as far as I'm concerned. Shire stepping away was a red flag. I think this announcement (as much as I thought Jay "Cliché" Williams was out of his depth) is now a white cross on a white background being waved rigorously.
Not convinced they'll make the season.

I reckon I went to more Royals home games last season than any other poster on this forum, so have always been a bit sad by the negative response they get on here. However, I am a pessimist when it comes to British basketball, having seen every team I've supported or followed - Thames Valley Tigers, Kingston Wildcats and, latterly, Guildford Heat - either fold or rebrand entirely. For that reason, I never let myself become too attached to Royals.
The noises coming out from the club towards the back end of season was that the best British players from around Europe were queuing up to sign for them, they had been invited to compete in Europe and that a big arena move was in the offing for 2019/20. Since the playoff final defeat, it's been radio silence, but for announcing the returns of Orlan Jackman and Will Neighbour. Shire has gone, the glitzy social media product has gone with the marketing firm paid big bucks to create the LCR brand and now Williams has been "let go".
As of a few months ago, Shire and Williams both saw themselves very much involved in the club's future. Williams was probably out of his depth and maybe they could have achieved more last season with a more experienced coach at the helm. Given recent developments, this news does surprise me though. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe a better coach with better players are due to be announced imminently, as well as a home venue for the new season.
As with others though, my gut instinct tells me a big question mark hangs over LCR and their future ambitions.

every team I've supported or followed - Thames Valley Tigers, Kingston Wildcats and, latterly, Guildford Heat - either fold or rebrand entirely So its your bloody fault!!!!
No on a serious note I for one certainly don't want them to fail - why would anyone want them to?
The problem is having been close to Everton Tigers this stinks of exactly the same thing - high net worth investor ploughs money into a club for a year (or a few in Everton's case), then gets cold feet when there is absolutely no return for the hundreds of 000's spent (and it was that in Everton's case and I cant imagine its too far off here).
Its not sustainable. The only way I think it works these days for a new franchise is to start from the bottom and graft your way up (and build a dedicated team/structure/fanbase at the same time) a la Bristol and Worcester (although they have their moments!). If I look at the sustainable entrants since I've been watching down the years - I'm looking at Plymouth, Worcester, Bristol - each of whom spent a considerable amount of time in Div 1 first.
If only the BBL entrant committee took sustainability over the £££s when it came to these things.

Pretty alarming news for the BBL with so little time left to the start of the season. They always looked like a flash in the pan outfit but surely if they were going to fold there'd have been an announcement sooner than this? I don't think we'll see them splashing the cash around in the same way they did last season even if they continue. That's a good thing imo because it massively impacts on other clubs that are trying to build basketball within their financial limits/constraints.

Completely agree. I'd have been quite happy to watch them playing out of Crystal Palace on a lower budget, fighting for a play off place, but their approach has always felt very much all or nothing.
First home game is six weeks away and no announcement of a home venue.

I hadn't realised that the venue was an issue! Thought they'd still be playing at 'the Mecca of British Basketball'.
As for the team, the rumours I've heard suggest they are very much prepared to splash the cash again.
Clearly the owners have decided they under-performed last season so they're making changes.
Coaching a group of such strong individuals would have been difficult for an experienced coach, let alone a rookie coach, I thought he handled the situation quite well.
I'm not sure the changes so far mean anything more than the owners want to take more control & if they're throwing as much money into the team as rumoured you can understand that.

London City Royals @ldncityroyals Hey everyone! We know it's been a bit quiet round here, but that's because we have some really exciting news coming later this week! While you wait, have a guess what it could be in the comments below.... ⬇⬇⬇
The above was their last tweet (one week ago on 5th August)
Nothing since
With Shire and Williams gone I'm wondering if a big name player is going to become player coach??
Either that or its all falling apart
