Just looked at all the teams web-sites. Manchester Giants, Glasgow Rocks & my favs London City Royals have all failed to put any scores or articles about the weekend games on their web-sites!! Absolutely nothing. You'd have thought their games had been called off! Well not in Royals case as there is no acknowledgement in any news article that the game was even taking place!! So no one would even know that'd played the game!! At least Rocks & Giants put up info before the games!!
Rocks & Giants have at least put decent information on their Twitter & Facebook page, Royals is very limited and simply re-tweets of BBL posts!
It's so unprofessional from these clubs, how can you expect to grow a fanbase or be taken seriously when you can't even get out the most basic information! You also have to question the BBL's role, how are they not monitoring the situation?
No wonder so many people think the league is unprofessional!

Couldn't agree more. Our club's online presence is disastrous. Compared to what it used to be. Shame really. It's like they don't give a ****.

I hate to say it, but online and social media coverage from most BBL teams is poor. And I’d include the BBL itself in that statement. Their Twitter account is relatively well managed, but their website is often out of date (last season the BBC Sport website/app updated the league table within minutes of the final days game ending, whereas the BBL website usually wasn’t update until the next day if not later) and poorly designed (for some reason it can only display a limited number of fixtures, for example right now it says there are only 3 games this weekend).
And I’m not bias, London Lions social media coverage is poor. Again, their Twitter is relatively well managed (if a little unprofessional at times) but their YouTube channel is shocking. They haven’t posted a single video in 7 months.
It’s frustrating because online and social media coverage is a relatively low cost way of increasing awareness of the league. Personally I think all teams, or the BBL themselves, should be posting 5-10 minute highlights of every game. The NBA do it, as do the NFL, Formula 1, etc.
On a more positive note, I was pleased to hear the BBL are attempting a weekly highlights and magazine style programme on YouTube from December.

It would be interesting to know how many hits each site gets on average. I imagine for some club sites (but I could be wrong) there is very little or even no traffic at all, hence, clubs may think "Why Bother" Just a thought edit I may look into this at some point (when I get time) ... If any peeps on here already know the stats, let us know

Another instance of pure professionalism!!

The thing with articles on a website is they don't get a high volume of views, and when they do people tend to spend less than a minute reading those articles.
Not many people are going to go to the website without being prompted by a link from Instagram, Twitter or Facebook so it has to be promoted there too. Unfortunately it seems a lot of clubs are seeing this as too much effort where others are realising that even if people don't spend a long time on the site, they are engaging with the club albeit briefly, and that is keeping the club in that supporters mind. It's better to consistently be visible on socials than just to post twice a week saying "GAMEDAY!"

Most of the businesses I interact with generally provide their Dynamic information / news via social media (FB, Twitter and increasingly just Instagram). Websites are just for contact details. And I'm an old fogey. I wouldn't go on the sheff Wednesday website to see results , fixtures etc I'd go to the BBC site. I guess the onus is on the BBL site to provide that sort of fixture info - BE were more or less competent at that when I was involved with the Juniors.

I hadn't realised some of the teams were so behind in getting basics like game reports onto the site, which is shocking in this day and age. Most sports would see news from an hour ago as being stale, let alone 2-3 days. I agree most traffic these days is going to come through social media, but the club should have a place where fans can find a more complete/detailed report shortly after the game. (280 characters only goes so far!) Keeping a regular presence on social is important to building up a club's visibility - as RSV said, once/twice a week on gameday isn't really enough, and many clubs are also too quiet over the summer months and have to rebuild their presence each September.
I remember filling out the BBL's 'engagement survey' recently, where they asked for scores on their (and your chosen club's) website/social media. Starting to think I should've given the BBL a lower score.

I think Plymouth have a good set up. We have weekly interviews highlights less than 24 hours after the game and a goon spread across all channels

I think websites still have a very valuable place even in the era of social media. A combined approach seems to work best and I think Eagles do a very good job.
I work hard to try and keep my clubs website up to date and relevant. I still believe it’s a first point of call for potential players/parents of players checking out where to play. I also believe that applies to our so called professional teams attracting fans......
Funny enough I thought this thread might be about whether the BBL is actually really a professional league.....now that’s a really interesting debate!

Well if the BBL had done proper due diligence then we wouldn't have had the farce that was Birmingham Knights and then Leeds Farce, sorry Force, who while may not have lost every game in their final season, were a complete shambles.

I know it's not the done thing, but to be fair to the BBL when they sold Leeds a franchise the club had the full and extensive support for the university. that the university would suddenly decide that sport was no longer their main priority couldn't have been foreseen by anyone. And Leeds were competent and competitive until the coup that removed Matt Newby.
While there have been times when the BBL have been driven by franchise fees or the wish to have more teams/teams in certain cities, they can't be blamed for every failed franchise.

I was less referring to how well the BBL is run and more to whether (even at its best) the clubs are really professional? You know like football league clubs are professional.
You cannot compare finances to football like for like but what level would you say the organisations and infrastructure of the BBL is compared to the football leagues? League 2? National League? Lower?
I would say Newcastle Eagles are on a par with Hartlepool United as opposed to say Sunderland. Sorry - its off topic!

The Glasgow Rocks seem to have handed control of all their social media over to Pewdie Pies 9 year old army. Its been an absolute disaster this season and thats putting it kindly. It seems like the person updating the game day stuff isn't allowed to stay up late enough to attend the games so messages their pals dad for the latest score every so often and to bulk out the content they screen shot anything they can find posted by anyone else. #Rockasone

Eagles put out some decent stuff on the website, midweek interviews, arena updates & what’s going on, club shop deals, game highlights so it’s not that difficult surely? 🤦♂️🏀

Maybe its the Rocks trying to do things on the cheap or something but its absolute murder this year.

If I am being honest I never read the BBL website. I will click on it to get results from the weekend fixtures for other teams and once in a while I might see which players are leading the various stat categories but that is about it. The rest of the time I come here for my basketball education.

Maybe its the Rocks trying to do things on the cheap or something but its absolute murder this year. Any BBL club really should have someone who can do a bit of a rewrite on the BBL reports. Change the opening paragraph if you've lost so it reads "A poor third period saw Rocks go down 97-79 at in-form Leopards, on Sunday" rather than "Leopards recorded their 15th straight win as a strong third period saw them beat Scottish Rocks 97-79, on Sunday". Add a bit more stat detail at the end. And, while I'm not a big fan of the previews in their current format, there's enough info to write a preview as well. And even though it could be argued that it's particularly professional, they should be able to find someone to video a quick interview with a player or the coach after a home game. Asking your fans if someone wants to get involved wouldn't be the worst thing to do.

It seems that whoever is conbasketball kiting the League account forgot to switch to their personal account.
At least we can tell they are a Brexiteer with who they've retweeted, Julia Hartley Brewer, that woman who hounded Greta is one of them.
Totally unprofessional behaviour
