I also don't agree with the "these Cup games are meaningless" argument, and that's seen in how well contested many of the games have been. My team are in the North group, competing for places with Eagles and Riders. I'm sure all three coaches will be emphasising to their players that the results do matter. Top place in the North Group secures a Quarter Final tie against 4th place in the South group - likely to be Flyers, Raiders or Scorchers. I'd much rather have that QF match-up than finish 3rd in the North group and have to play the second placed team from the South Group, which looks like being either Wolves or one of the London pair. In my opinion, no way is this new format Cup a pre-season warm-up. Teams (and fans) want to reach a Final and lift the first silverware of the season.
Just for my understanding, misunderstanding; how many teams are in the group stages?
If I’m understanding your question… all 12 BBL teams are in the group stage of the Cup – 6 in the North group, and 6 in the South group. The top 4 teams in each group will progress to the quarter finals – North 1st plays South 4th, North 2nd plays South 3rd and so on…

In my opinion, no way is this new format Cup a pre-season warm-up. Teams (and fans) want to reach a Final and lift the first silverware of the season. Just to clarify, I'm not saying that the cup itself is like a preseason tournament, just this initial group stage. Although that may not be true for some teams who are fighting for a spot in the knockout stages after watching our first three games you'd have to feel pretty confident we could win the reverse fixtures and therefore it takes the pressure off the games against eagles and rocks. And I'm talking from a fans perspective not a team or coaches. I'm sure Rob and the team will have treated that game with the same importance and desire to win as any other. Just that the impact of the loss is negligible because of the format. Now you could argue it may go further than that because of the manner of the victory. But that is more to do with the performances not necessarily the impact of winning or losing the 2 pts I absolutely do want Riders to win every game but as Saintpat said teams can lose multiple games and it not impact their chances of winning the cup. Yes it might mean you get to play one London team instead of the other but at this stage I don't think anyone knows who they would rather play even if they could choose. After a couple of weeks it looks like there are three pretty solid teams in both groups but that there may be a drop off after that. So winning the group would provide a decent competitive advantage. But that could change as teams get up to full strength anyway. And would only give a one game advantage as it makes no difference once you get to the semi final stage. In terms of this Riders team I think through what I've seen so far if (and it may be a big if) we ever get a fully fit Mo Walker playing at the level he did for Worcester we look to be potentially stronger than we have been for the last couple of seasons. Totally agree with this. My only real ‘gripe’ with the Cup is that there’s too many games in this first round. As has been noted, mathematically you could lose your first 3 games and still go on to win the Cup. But we all know the number of games was dictated by the reduced number of games in the Championship this season. Although why we couldn’t have had a couple less games in this round of the Cup and a couple more in the Championship I don’t know. Also, and this is just a personal thing, if we’ve re-introduced a North/South conference for the Cup I’d have like to have seen that maintained until the final – resulting in a Northern Champion vs Southern Champion. But that’s just my personal preference.

Who all have lost the same number of games as the 4th???
