Thoroughly entertaining game tonight with Scorchers matching Royals for the whole game. Scorchers played very well with a noticeable step up in defensive intensity. Particularly pleasing was the contribution from the imports which was much better than previous games. Sadly, as per usual this year, couldn't quite get over the line...
Big crowd too with some Royals travelling fans which made the atmosphere very decent.

Awesome game this evening shame about the result and as per usual ridiculous calls given/ not given - I don’t think all of us are asking a lot for some consistency!!
Was a really good atmosphere tonight with Royals fans taking the trip and the noise was great from both sets of fans.
It was just such a shame a select few had to go and ruin an entertaining “family game” with their foul language towards Tayo whilst he was taking his free throw.... shouting “Tayo your s***” is crossing the line. Put them off, make noise thats acceptable but using language like that (especially when it will be heard as we remain silent).
#oneteam #onegoal #come on scorchers

I respectfully disagree. Nothing wrong with shouting and swearing trying to put them off shooting

I respectfully disagree. Nothing wrong with shouting and swearing trying to put them off shooting If you read my post I said the louder the better shouting loud for your team being the 6th man is what it is all about. But swearing... not at a family game it’s out of order I mean come on what is it teaching future generations it’ll ruin the atmosphere

I didn’t hear that - but I completely agree.
Making noise to put people is off is fine - swearing is not. Absolutely no need for it

Make sure you don’t ever go to a game on mainland Europe!

Make sure you don’t ever go to a game on mainland Europe! That wouldn't be a problem, you'd need to be fluent in swearing in whatever language is spoken. Otherwise you wouldn't have a clue what's being said. i suppose the same could be said in Glasgow or Newcastle!!

I respectfully disagree. Nothing wrong with shouting and swearing trying to put them off shooting you agree with swearing at players during a game, that's not a basketball fans that's a football holagun no space for it for a sports that's a family event let alone any other sport, it's bad enough ex BBL players swearing at kids #stampitout

Genuine question... is the fact we sell it as a “family event” the reason there is zero atmosphere at 99% of bbl games??

Probably yeah, and if you swear you're called a hooligan! Absolutely embarrassing that

Genuine question... is the fact we sell it as a “family event” the reason there is zero atmosphere at 99% of bbl games?? Yes. Have long thought this and the conversation in this thread epitomises it. The reason this sport will never be taken seriously is because it’s seen as a family entertainment alternative to the cinema or Go Ape, not a sport. The atmosphere at most BBL venues is dead. I watch football every week, hear lots of swearing and can assure you not everyone who lets emotions run high is a “hooligan”. I’m not advocating all out anti social behaviour but one fan swears and they’re branded a hooligan. That’s laughable, sorry. Royals have it right and the Lithuanians at Crystal Palace are the reason I go there right now, rather than Surrey or Lions. I know it will probably fade away once the Lav Twins leave but I’ve waited decades for a proper European style atmosphere in this country so will enjoy it while it lasts. I still remember the Siaulai fans at the Spectrum FWIW...

Yeah it’s just never been as popular as football but it is getting bigger with all the little projects and things like project 3x3. I’m proud to get behind my team and i’ll shout my head off throughout all I am saying is that when the need is there either don’t shout it or learn it in another language 👍🏼

There are a number of noisy fans at Phoenix, but very much in the minority. I'd love to have more people making a noise, I can't believe 95 % of our crowd sit all through a game without jumping up or making their feelings known.

Making noise, shouting and cheering are different to creating atmosphere. If you ever have a chance to each greece play and hear the hellas chant you'll have goosebumps

I still remember the Siaulai fans at the Spectrum FWIW... I wouldn't have used the hooligan word but we do market basketball as family entertainment. That brings with it a particular way of behaving at a game. There are kit races and Mexican waves all of which reinforces this standard The audience is largely made up of families and if someone stands up and hurls a torrent of abuse at a player or a referee in front of my 12 year old then that is not acceptable. I want to teach my children that they should respect the opposition and the officials. Atmosphere is clearly different to abuse though and I would be very happy if there were more noise at the BBL games (and less music) I also go to football regularly. There is a different set of acceptable behaviours there - and that is fine. You know what you are getting when you go to the game and you make your own decisions about whether to attend or not.

I'd agree with that. There is a certain irony however to Scorchers fans complaining about language/abuse as there is a small section of very vocal Scorchers supporters who hurl abuse at opposing players, coaches and officials. They might not swear, but i would say they don't generate a family atmosphere!

The more of a bear pit a game can be atmosphere wise, the more enjoyable it is for me. Was exactly the same when I was pretending to be a player.
That said I do not have kids and thus don't take them to events marketed as "family fun".
Which of course I have no problem with - if clubs want it to be a family event whats the issue? I just don't like it myself. I'd prefer it to be hostile. But I am strange.
