I dont understand why theyd want to go to the BBL if Im honest. Pay an extortionate entry fee for what extra gain? Theres no financial incentive there whatsoever. If theyre getting good numbers and the business model is sustainable then they dont need to go to the BBL at all. That's the way I see it. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I mean, I know for a fact with the college and whatever that they run a tight ship down there (heh, Southampton port/boating joke), but unless there was a significant profit to be made through TV exposure and the like then I really don't see whats to be gained from making the step "up"*. As it stands that club would not be at all better off by playing in the BBL - that may change if theres some form of cash injection into the league but at the moment they get as much for winning D1 as you would for winning the BBL. Ironically one of the biggest incentives would be the much maligned All Stars competition. They develop their own kids and surround them with seasoned D1 players/Americans and everyone benefits - the teams winning and the younger kids are getting better. They can either then go off to the states/Europe or stay at Kestrels (a la Elliot Dadds who's done a great job for them). Works fine.
*I say up in inverted commas as they're comfortably a mid table team in terms of standard in this seasons BBL.
