NBA legend Kobe Bryant died on Sunday morning in a helicopter crash in Los Angeles, authorities have confirmed.
The former Los Angeles Lakers guard was reportedly among five people who perished when their craft lost control and crashed into a hillside.
He was just 41 and had embarked on a successful business career since retiring in 2016, winning an Oscar last year.
Bryant won five NBA championships and was named Finals MVP twice and also collected two Olympic gold medals in Beijing and London.

Devastating news.
That's really upset me.
Legend on and off the court.
Way more than just a great basketball player.
Inspiration to so many people across the world.
Things like this shouldn't happen to people like this.

Just saw this, can't quite believe it. Especially after all the comments LeBron made about him yesterday after passing him on the scoring list, he was right there in the news for that then suddenly today it's a helicopter crash, of all things. Just stunned.

Gutted. Absolutely gutted.
This was my very first all star game and Kobe was just 18 at the time and incredible.

I've got to say I'm shocked at the coverage in the UK News and media this morning. Shows how big a star Kobe was in the world and did as much, if not more, than most NBA stars to spread the success of the NBA around the globe. What I liked about Kobe Bryant was that the games he played in always seemed to matter more to everyone. The fans, the opponents, his team mates - he lent games a relevance because of his relentless competitiveness and star power.
He was clearly not always an easy character to warm to. Sometimes churlish, vicious and controversial. However if you love basketball you could not help but enjoy watching him play - even if it was in the hope your team would beat him. The player and the person though clearly were not one and the same as the amount of personalities from entertainment and other sports that have come out and thanked him for his support over the years has shown.
The only other thing I'd add is that I'm not sure he'd like the 24 second violations done in his honour. Considering he was a player who could always find a way to get a shot up (often a good one!) at the end of shot clocks and games......its being done with great intentions though and certainly a unique idea.

The BBC paid homage to him perfectly.... By showing a 30 second clip of Lebron James' highlights vs 76ers.....

I didn't see that but certainly both 5Live and Radio 2 (yes I'm that old :-) ) had very nice and fitting tributes this morning.
I've just seen that the Aussie tennis star Kyrgios has taken to the court in a Kobe Jersey.

If you go back and read what LeBron said the night before, after passing him on the scoring list, its actually quite spooky. It reads like a eulogy tribute and he talked about how the universe puts things in your life and there's no explanation for it sometimes. The fact that he passed Kobe as a Laker, in a game in Philly the day before he died is just really crazy.

Heartbroken. Still hasn't sunk in yet.
Watching the two early Sunday NBA games yesterday was certainly a strange experience. After the Raps and Spurs took the 24 second violation the basketball then got jammed behind the basket. Also a bit spooky.
Also to see players like Devin Booker crying just makes it worse.

Skysports news reporter in american just said what Kobe did for baseball! Absolutely gutted ill admitted ive watched clips and read comments and ive cried as he was mat 1st sporting hero. He did so much on court and was being to do even more off it! When he was number 8 he was great but when he went to 24 Kobe became something so much much more than a basketball player. He became an inspiration for on the court and off it! RIP Legend
