What do I win?? Anyway full respect to both teams. Fletch looked like he had made it game over when eagles led by double digits. He was superb. But Solent showed their class by fighting their way back into it. By the end not only were eagles short handed but half of them were playing hurt by the looks of it as well as knackered Basketball was the winner today If that's the last game we see this season it's a great way to end You might get another brick in the hall of fame IEF Seriously that prediction has to have a chance of actualy making it into my top ten predictions of the last five years list! After the game went into overtime I actually wanted Eagles to win just so it became true!

Got to give a lot of respect to Defoe today as well. He was awesome. True grit.

I agreed with the commentators at the end. This victory will mean as much if not more to the club than previous trophy wins. Eagles needed this boost.

Newcastle beat a division 1 team. In overtime. How far our league has fallen that they even got there in the first place!

Just back home from Glasgow. Solent did not give up and gave us an almighty scare. They are a very good team. Well done to the eagles with only 6 senior players and 2 who have not played for weeks. 🍾 Trophy 25. Still remember that day in Brighton when we won our first against Mr Nurse and his Brighton team. Only seems like yesterday.

BBL Game ReportNewcastle Eagles 96-94 Team Solent Kestrels (22-22, 46-45, 77-65, 87-87) (Eagles – Fletcher 29, Defoe 23, Gettys 21; Kestrels – Sentance 26, Charles 18, Smith 18) After overtime. Newcastle Eagles have won the BBL Trophy for the seventh time in their history – and first time since 2015 – after prevailing through overtime to beat Team Solent Kestrels 96-94 in an historic final at the Emirates Arena, live on BBC Sport. Among numerous heroic performances for the short-handed Eagles, CJ Gettys took the MVP award after a monstrous haul of 21 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists, with the seven-footer playing over 40 minutes of basketball. Missing four players, and using only six on the day, Eagles looked to have the game won against the first National Basketball League Division 1 side to make the final, when Darius Defoe – who has now won the Trophy a record seven times – scored 12 third quarter points as they took the period 31-20 and led 77-65 heading into the final ten minutes. But Kestrels came storming back in the fourth, taking the lead at 83-82 after scoring eight in a row, with Ian Smith hitting the last four of those, before tying the game with a Trayvonn Wright dunk with 4.5 seconds remaining. There was little to separate the teams in the extra period, as the lead changed hands on six occasions, until the decisive moment came inside the final minute when Drew Lasker grabbed an offensive rebound and put back to give Newcastle a 95-94 edge with 57 seconds to play. Kestrels had a shot to win it, but Wright left his long range two short and Defoe grabbed the rebound before icing the game at the line. There were huge performances from three Eagles’ veterans, with Rahmon Fletcher leading all scorers on 29 points, while Darius Defoe had a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds, with Drew Lasker coming from the bench to be instrumental in key moments, scoring seven points and grabbing 10 rebounds, including four at the offensive end. Eagles’ Head Coach Ian MacLeod commented in the immediate aftermath, “This is the drama people want, and what a final should be. Massive credit to Solent; they have really shocked some people and they have had a fantastic season.” Reflecting on a war of attrition, MacLeod added particular praise for Defoe, the most decorated player in BBL Trophy history, “My guys dug in, and they had nothing left in the tank, so I’m really, really happy. Darius Defoe has been here for 17 years, and we expect him to rise to the occasion. “All the way through we kept saying after the first quarter that there are only 30 minutes left of the season, 20 minutes left at half time, 10 minutes left, 5 minutes left. “Keep pushing, this is our season right now, and you can see what it means to them.”

Well ... we got our Trophy, so I'm happy Next stop Riders home. But with a six man rotation, I have absolutely NO expectations for that game Would really, really like Rocks to go on and win the league now ...Assuming the season has not been called off Five man as Fletcher is flying out tomorrow. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/basketball/51900529

Just got home as well from a wonderful advert for basketball, with the right result - pity the sports media didn't latch onto it ! My son and I were there for trophy no 1 with Fab in Brighton and again now trophy no.1 without Fab - brilliant !
Just a small reminder to IEF before he gets too cocky about his prediction skills - look at my 10 March post on the Eagles v Kestrels thread...
To save you the bother, it said "Eagles by 1 after overtime"

Don't think airlines will be flying across the Atlantic with a few dozen Yanks on board.

Don’t agree on the MVP choice - CJ was great, and so was Fletch, but my money would have been on Darius who really ground out that win in the 2nd half. I’m sure others will disagree, mind! I haven't even looked at the stats yet but the BBL just give these awards to the highest Index score generally. I imagine he got the highest right? It's a ****ing retarded system, honestly.

Did anyone catch the interview with the chap at half time, saying they're following Government advice.
With players leaving it makes little sense for the league to continue, they should call it a day and declare Glasgow Rocks champions for 19/20.

I was talking to Lloyd Gardner at a camp during half-term, he told me that craziness follows Elvisi around.
