Question. Macedonia needed to beat Estonia by 9 points to qualify.
If the game had finished a draw, presumably OT would still be played?
In which case, a draw to force OT would have been better for Macedonia coming down the stretch than falling short by winning by 7 or 8.
It looked like they were playing for fouls at the end to get the draw.
Is that right?

I wasn't following that particular situation but yes, when you're in a group situation where you need to win by a certain score, sometimes you're better off going to OT than trying to win at the end of regulation.
GB currently beating up on France by the way, amazingly enough.

So nearly won the H2H over France. One last 3 pointer would have done it. Looks like they sportingly let France run down the final 25 seconds.
If Olanseni's foul trouble hadn't limited him to under 15 minutes we would have won by 30. Okay getting carried away, but a fantastic job well done.

It really is a remarkable result regardless of its lack pf importance. I guess second place in rhe group will improve our seeding in the finals, so it's a bit of a shamexwe didn't get thaf extra basket

What was important was winning the game by 20 points or more to maximise the ranking points. I'm sure the team would have liked to have won the group for pride sake but in regards to seeding they did the right thing not to risk their 21 point lead at the end.

In a bizarre game, Estonia did their best to avoid going to overtime and giving North Macedonia five more minutes to chase the nine-point gap from the first matchup. At the same time, North Macedonia tried to avoid winning in regulation, but did so once Nenad Dimitrijevikj's off-balance three-pointer went in to make it 86-84. That meant Estonia picked up the tiebreaker, confirmed their third place in the group, behind Italy and Russia.

Fun fact... France are the highest ranked opponent Great Britain have ever beaten (currently #6 in the world rankings). The previous best is China who were #10 when GB beat them in 2011 and 2012.
And I suppose it’s not just a fun fact, as I understand it this’ll help Great Britain with the seeding in the FIBA World Cup Qualification draw.

How do we feel about mark woods comment on it being a 2nd or 3rd string french side? Pretty much correct. However you can only play what is placed in front of you.

How do we feel about mark woods comment on it being a 2nd or 3rd string french side? No need to overreact, did France have anything riding on it?

How do we feel about mark woods comment on it being a 2nd or 3rd string french side? I mean they were missing all their NBA players and heavily rotated the rest of their usual team, it’s still a really good win but I can’t see how anyone could really argue with him

I do see his point though

How do we feel about mark woods comment on it being a 2nd or 3rd string french side? Think anyone getting their knickers in a twist need to actually look at the bigger picture. Would we have beaten a full strength France? Highly doubtful. He is correct it isn’t their full strength side. We qualified that’s the main thing. I saw a load of people giving him grief about it but what is wrong with what he said?

Well against Estonia we last played them in the World Cup Qualifiers, 1 win apiece. A 73-70 defeat in Tallinn but we won the reverse fixture 74-65 in Glasgow which was our only win at that stage.

I think we can be happy with this draw. In my opinion a realistic goal would be to win one game. To win 2 and make it to the knockouts should be considered a huge success.
