Another Eagles Q4 meltdown - not even sure we’ll get home advantage for the playoffs

That was awful. Attitude in that 4th quarter absolutely stunk, managing to score a grand total of 2 points in the first 6 minutes.
Fair play to Manchester, Cassell Jnr was excellent on what seemed to be one leg.
Fletcher looked visibly frustrated in that final quarter, sat out of the time out discussion and stood with hands on his hips multiple times. Fair enough in my opinion, if it wasn't for him it would've been a convincing defeat earlier in the game.
Massive rethink needed this summer.

Didnt expect that at all, I missed the last qtr and was gob smacked when I saw the final result. What happened they had it under control when I left.

It was always going to happen the drop off with the eagles Smith went fabs gone lasker and defoe got older. This is probably a fourth place roster that will finish fourth!! But after the era they've had its going to take time to reestablish themselves even the great united had to post fergie!!

Well, that was a new level of awful. From seeming total control in the first half to the exact opposite in the second. Felt sorry for Fletcher who was magnificent again and played the full 40. Edwards too played his part but the big lads were pretty much missing in action in the second half. Full credit to Giants for not giving up even amongst the carnage of the technicals. It seems like a long time since I watched an Eagles teeam give up a 15 point lead in the final quarter, with this team I have nasty feeling I won't have to wait long for the next one. I really hope I am wrong.

It’s no wonder Fletcher has his hands on his hips after putting up 38 pts and handing out 9 ast and losing the final quarter by pretty much 20 pts.

To be fair Maxwell played ok - it was Sayers and Defoe well below par tonight, and with a rotation of only 7 that was always going to hurt. I get the feeling we’re one player short of the squad we need about this time every season. At least we’ve got a nailed on season MVP - just look at the BBL stats and give it to him now !

The Bald and Baldereagles disagree! Maxwell played 23 mins during which Eagles were -17. Defoe played 19 mins during which +/-0. Suggests to me that, although Darius can’t fill a stats line like he used to, his on-court presence, leadership and defence is worth much more than Eagles are getting from Maxwell recently. More generally, first of all congrats to Manchester who never gave up and fought their way back to a deserved win. And well coached too - they changed their plan to try and tether Fletch in the 2nd half and it definitely influenced the outcome. But Eagles simply hit the self-destruct button.....again. Too many players simply not performing. It would have been a bloodbath without Fletcher. Question - is that all down to the players or is it down to the coach? My uninformed bet is both. Eagles now struggling to hold onto 4th spot. Not good enough. Rarely have I had less hope for the play-offs. Just hope I am wrong. Finally, at least five technicals in tonight’s game. The officials didn’t influence the outcome but one in particular really needs to grow a thicker skin or a sense of proportion.

My reading of the stats is that Defoe was actually a +14.

Having said that I wouldn’t moan about the refs, having just watched the awful Q4 in fairness to the Eagles that was an all time shocker of a charging foul called against Edwards on a fast break. Ulph was so far inside the no charge zone that he must have been under the bucket.
But in the end Eagles blew it and neither players nor coach had the wherewithal to find a way to win. Same old.........

Even worse having re-watched the game. Despite Fletch’s heroics Eagles were out-thought, out-fought and certainly out-coached in the 2nd half. As for being one player short, at the beginning of the season I thought and said Eagles were a player short. But I was wrong. Make that 3 players short despite recruiting Shore at the new year. Fletcher played all 40 mins against Giants last night and Edwards about 36. Three other guards DNP, presumably because the coach didn’t feel he could deploy them. Sort of supports my point, as does the fact that we have three bigs but only one (who is 35) who is really effective.

Isn't MVP voted for by the coaches? Although it tends to go to top teams I would have thought it was hard to ignore Fletcher no matter where they end up in the table.
