that's the hopeful answer. another interpretation is that he's moving the franchise out of Plymouth. (not even sure what BBL rules are about that?)

Pavilions has been shutting since I was at uni in 2010!! The worry is there is no venue that could host the amount of fans the raiders have maybe you could get 500 in the life centre at a push!! Personally I would ask if raiders could buy the pavilions from the council and keep it as an asset for the city failing that we have so many empty units in the city that could be converted like they do in Australia!!

Teams can relocate, guess you must be new to following the BBL Glasgow Rocks started out in Edinburgh London Lions started out in Hemel Hempstead, also played in Watford then moved to Milton Keynes then finally moving to London Newcastle Eagles once played in Sunderland

Slight difference in mileage!

That doesn't appear to be the root cause of this. It's the fact Pavillions are asking for yet another increase in rent... for an aging and relatively small venue. Raiders are refusing to pay this latest increase. This could all be part of their negotiation tactics, or they could honestly be considering a move to somewhere like Birmingham. I can think of worse moves... especially next year where they could try and capitalise on the Commonwealth games interest, sort of like Lions did post Olympics.

I hope this is a negotiating ploy. Moving to Birmingham would be a slap in the face for one of the most loyal sets of fans in the league.

Slight difference in mileage! Kingston (upon Thames) played a year in Glasgow!! I do wonder if they mean a 200% increase or doubling the rest (100% increase) but either way I can see why the ownership are saying no. Venues have lost money over the last 14 months but that doesn't mean they can insist on massive increases. It does sound like the rent being demanded makes it completely impossible to stay there. The Pavilions wouldn't be the first venue to deliberately price out a basketball club because they don't want them. They wouldn't be the first to find that it then sits empty (or being used for 4 old gits to play badminton) at a time they could've been making money. I hope they stay in plymouth. A move to Brum ends a long history. A few fans will follow them for a while, but slowly they'll get tired of the trip and the links will be broken. I've seen that, Saint Pat will back me up.

Probably does't help that it is no secret that PLY now have some money behind them and the Pavilions wants a piece of the pie. I saw on FB that this isn't out of character for the Pavilions so maybe contingency should have been in place before getting to this point!

Every season the Pavillions demand excessive rent hikes because they’ve got Raiders by the balls. As far as I know, there is no alternative venue in Plymouth. A negotiation tactic I suspect but clearly this can’t continue every season.

I've got no idea about suitable venues, but what about Exeter ? It's still in Devon and being at the wrong end of the M5 hasn't stopped their rugby team performing !

i assume their is a reason why the obvious solution is not the path being taken? thought a big factor in the new investment owners was because they had links already in Plymouth through education? so why would they not just put up their own building that is part of that education linkage and meets the school/college/university needs as well as the BBL team and the raiders community program needs?
they could even ask a fellow BBL side nicely for the blueprint of such a building that would support a college/bbl/community need ?
if the owners are investing for the long term - is that not the path you would expect, versus relocating to a bigger catchment city with a broken history of tier 1 club working out?

Well I guess that depends on their interests. Maybe it isn't what they wanted out of the club? Maybe short term success was the name of the game? With European aspirations, the venue wouldn't be suitable anyway.

Unless they’re planning to throw the thousands required to rent out one of the two larger arenas here, they’re stuck having to play at the inadequate (think seating capacity) and/or often fairly inaccessible leisure centres we have here.
I honestly can’t see how Birmingham’s an option

Surely the best bet is as said above. Build their own using the Leicester or Newcastle framework (or best of both). But those things take time and a lot of planning so need to get on it sharpish
