We beat them in the league but can't really see that we can match them over two legs. They have so many ways of scoring inside and outside, with so many capable of hitting 3's from anywhere. Still we got in the playoffs which is an improvement on the last couple of years. Hopefully a fully fit squad for the chance to get to the semi finals but we need to work on defence.

A lot depends on whether their recent heavy defeat renews their determination to win silverware or if it knocked the stuffing out of Nix. I hope it's the former. They have a good team BUT over two games it's hard to see past a Lions win.

Jets with an unfortunate close out of the game there. Should have really been a two point loss but a choke job at the line and a deep dagger by Dirk extends it to 7!

Still in the tie which is more than I expected after the riders game. Well done to all. I know it’s probably a wind up but please call us Phoenix!

Ellesmere Port Jets
I'm still intrigued how the BBL took the franchise away from its owner mid seaspn and relaunched the club. I was working for the BBL at the time and it was difficult to not mention it

I have no idea of the justification for the owner having the franchise withdrawn. The new owner purchased the franchise of Peter Hawkins. He appointed Hamilton as the coach and a team was put together at the last minute. Not surprisingly they struggled initially but were credible given the hastily put together squad at the 11th hour.Hamilton then had an altercation with the previous owner at a junior game. He was suspended and subsequently quit. Chez Marks was made temporary coach with Hams assistant Matt Lord as his assistant. ( current bbl ref) Crowds were low. From what I was told the owner was losing a packet and laid off all the Americans before they needed paying off. He was going to take the Mersey Tigers approach and recruit the best local talent which would obviously be a lot cheaper. It was at this point that the franchise was removed and a campaign was held to get the finance whilst the team played under a bbl banner. The money was raised and hence the name Phoenix. Although we didn’t make play offs that year we were credible. An ageing Sean Meyers played large minutes but his IQ was evident. Other players included Alif Bland who joined I think joined Flyers the following year. Gabe Haskins joined Raiders the following year. Chez I think top scored that year in the bbl and I think joined Rocks the following year. I dont know what rules the previous owner broke to have the licence withdrawn but I’m guessing there had to be some legal justification. From memory Hawkins was going to fold the jets if a buyer wasnt found so the new owner did actually save the club. I suspect he lost a packet but don’t think anyone was too concerned with his plight given his plans for the club. For supporters it was a very worrying time but thankfully we seem a lot more stable these days. Wind ups can be fun, courtesy’s to fellow ball supporters given the struggles their franchise has suffered would be nice but we certainly arnt going to get too upset by posters basketball shouting out other names when weve survived far harder times. You should be pleased that we did or the bbl would now be 10 teams and you’d have less games to watch per year and the league would be less credible. I guess the person who benefitted most from the turmoil was Hawkins who sold the club.

So after a day off from the playoffs, it's back to the game. Thought my team whatever they're called really tightened up their defence obviously reading Sonjels advice cutting down Lions chances of hitting 3's. Great effort to hold Lions to 73 points not many teams have done that. A long long way to go tonight, definate possibility we could win but will struggle to get enough to win overall. More defence and really need someone else to score big points, too easy to cover Jalan, Mike and Karon where the majority of our points come from. Wonder if Robinson will revcover for tonight?
Edit. Just checked , only Sharks and Wolves kept them below 73 and they were both 72!!

Them too. Monday was the 24th anniversary of Playboy TV Leopards beating Chester Jets in semi final at Wembley. So in your opinion would the Playboy TV Leopards of 97 have beaten Lions tonight the way they were shooting, or would it have all gone tits up for you as well?
