But, but, but... winning EuroLeague isn't as good as winning the NBA. Just thought I'd try to save us all some time.

At the very least he'd claim winning Eastern Conference was no biggie. and to be fair....

Ha ha. The fact that some of you are glorifying the Europe cup but claim to know what good basketball is…… is well hilarious. And telling. I’ll give credit where it’s due and getting blown out of the BCL qualifiers TWICE signals to me, they belong where they are……the lowest level of European competition. Chasing lower level competition is a fools errand. Seems Leicester and Newcastle know it’s better to stay in their lane and continue to successfully build their brands in the UK.

It is amusing how dunkster is attempting to educate people about a competition he didn't even know the name of until someone pointed it out to him. Bottom tier of European competition it may be but you do actually need to be quite a good basketball team in the grand scheme of things to win it. It's been won almost exclusively thus far by teams from the elite European leagues. So even if they aren't a particularly true representation of the BBL as a whole, it certainly would be significant if Lions managed it. I don't think there's a cat in hell's chance of it happening any time soon but if it somehow did, it should surprise absolutely no one to learn that dunkster would still be unimpressed.
Anyway, let's not turn this into another one of those threads. Only watched the game in fits and starts but I personally thought Kelley looked useful. I certainly think he can rim protect. Extremely long and moves pretty well for his size. Wasn't credited with a block yesterday but looked to me like he effected plenty of shots. Outside of Tawiah, who is seemingly not deemed fit for purpose in Europe, Lions do lack a real big, physical post presence. Also don't think they have a quality stretch 4. But a small team they certainly are not. Started a 6'5" guy at PG yesterday. One of the wings is 6'8". And Kelley looks an absolute giant. Thought Lions looked bigger than Donar at pretty much every position and that superior length really made a difference. Aside from a few scores in transition, I actually thought Donar had a tough time getting anything really high percentage around the basket. Only made 36% of their shots from inside the arc. Lions 63%.
It pains me to do so but I'm gonna have to give Lions some credit here. I thought this was winnable but I didn't think it would be comfortable. Margin could probably have been bigger too. Outside of Teague they really shot the ball poorly from the perimeter. Williams missed a bunch of good looks. Washburn went 1/7. Probably sounds a bit premature after one game but I think Lions are in a very strong position to advance now. I think the other result in the group has confirmed the obvious with regards to the respective abilities of those two sides. The more I look at Kapfenberg's roster the more underwhelmed I become. Two of their three Americans really look pretty naff quite frankly. They used eight guys yesterday and that was with one of the teenagers playing 16 minutes. On paper, I honestly think Lions will face tougher in the BBL. Potentially quite a lot tougher. I think this is a team they should be beating home (comfortably) and away. Do that and it might not matter too much what happens in the other three games.

Lions women fighting hard in their 1st game. Down by 4 at the half, they were down by as many as 9. Not moving the ball as cleanly as previous games but they're missing players (most importantly Winterburn) which makes it difficult & means the defence can't be quite so intense.

Excellent win. Lions put in a fantastic shift & just wore the opposition down in the 4th. So tense at the end. If you don't watch any of the rest of the game, watch Lions basically throw the ball away from an inbound, before Kennedy stretches every part of her body to throw it back in to play before Jo Leedham nails the 3 to put Lions 3 up!! All that heart, commitment & effort from the whole team, shown in the 5 second stretch of play.
Incredible 24 hours for Lions fans in particular but all of British basketball, whatever the doom monger says, this is an outstanding 24 hours for British basketball.

Great, if slightly difficult, result for Lions women’s today.
Next Wednesday’s Lions double header is going to something to look forward to.

Great job ladies!!!! Congrats.
The ladies both Lion and Team GB are genuinely a BRITISH team and emerging success story. The Lions men’s team with its heavy reliance on AMERICAN has been’s will NEVER get beyond where they are. You Brits are funny in that hiring foreigners to do the heavily lifting may work in soccer, but in basketball….not so much!!

But in your f'cked up world it's literally the worst European women's competition. Where's the difference? Of course neither of the competitions Lions are in are literally the worst European cups that they could enter. If you really knew anything about European competitions you'd be aware of the array of dodgy pots they could have entered.

Ticketmaster sales for the men's game have rocketed to over 50! Surely Lions will learn and change the pricing points for the remaining games, either that or play in an empty arena because it must be costing more in security & other gameday staff than they're bringing in!
Such a massive opportunity lost.

Looks like about 100 tickets sold, guessing there will be a few freebies as well, really disappointed at this, absolute cock up and hopefully the owners learn from this
Not really sure why they entered if they weren’t even going to use it to try and get fans in

There are free tickets floating about now which has pissed off some of the people who have paid. However they need bums on seats for this & other games. 100 people in a European game would be 1. Embarrassing 2. Awful for the fans who were there. There would be absolutely no atmosphere & I doubt if 50% of those people would ever return.
I'm a season ticket holder, I'd be happy if we gave out some free tickets for all our home games over the next few weeks, we need to increase the exposure of the club, it will make it better for everyone. I'd prefer it if we had sensible pricing to get people in but whatever works at present is ok for me.

I had decided not to bother as it’s a 2 hour each way journey, but for free I will be there, hopefully a few more decide to go too
Shame they’re not even pushing free tickets heavily

A couple angry people on Twitter who bought tickets, I do get being annoyed but I think in their shoes I would understand why Lions have done it
I did also see the Lions put out a tweet saying tickets were ‘going fast’ before the free ones were announced
I’m all for stretching the truth but that is absolutely hilarious, in the 2 weeks they’d been on sale they sold about 100 tickets, less than 2% of the arena capacity, if that is selling fast I’d love to know what they consider slow
