It’s so long since their last game, I’m worried Eagles will have lost their match fitness. On the other hand plenty of time for Brandon to blend in with the team. Go Eagles !

Wow Sharks so domininant the first lay up from the tip off was bizarre, to give Sharks the lead from start to finish shaky refing calls in the last 3 minutes, to get the score closer for a barnstorming finish. But the Sharks dug in and saw the game out well I'm not sure who I would pick as MVP Ratinho / Andersen / Glasgow ?
Let's hope we can follow that up on Sunday against Riders, then I'll start believing

Rats was the difference, Eagles couldn't handle him. Once again Eagles getting totally blown away in one quarter and fighting an uphill battle from then on. And we still can't defend for **** when Darius isn't on the court.

Great win. Less Koch and more Delpeche and the 3 guard offence worked.
Should be those 5 + Williams and a tiny bit of Koch, Tuck.
Eagles look a bit disorganised.
Sharks won pretty easily.
So inconsistent though.
Will they actually put 2 good games together?

Interesting but I thought that having watched a poor Sharks team lose so comprehensively to Nix, then Eagles would win this easily. So does this mean that Eagles are really poor at the moment or Sharks are really a good team? So if Sharks are really good then the start that Nix made was just a new team settling in and that Nix are going to be z top team as pundits suggested. And then you've got to figure in the Teddy O factor!!!

And then you've got to figure in the Teddy O factor!!! I think in such a close league it shows how fine the margins can be. Eagles hadn't played in like 20 days and came out the blocks freezing cold, never recovered from that large deficit. Sharks had a disappointing loss on Sunday and were looking to back. Hard to take anything away looking at the bigger picture. I thought Sheffield moved the ball nicely tonight and their offence seemed to come easier than the Eagles did. They also defended well and our shooters very rarely got open looks. There were times where it seemed like Ratinho was invisible to any Eagles player, he seemed to get so many wide open threes. Worryingly stagnant offence from Eagles, hope its just a case of having some time off. Excuses are starting to run dry for this team now. Still overly reliant on Defoe to stop teams scoring as well.

Sheffield were far more Fluent at both ends than eagles, Rodney Glasgow ran the show, yet sharks were getting slaughtered on here the other day for being so poor v Nix, inconsistency everywhere it seems

Glasgow was the MVP for Sharks imo. Almost everything went through him, pretty much.

Decided to keep quiet after the game until I had watched the vid. Having done so, here goes….
Seemed to me that Eagles are a different team with Defoe on court. Aside from his scoring last night, he is just immense on defence & makes the team work in a way that nobody else does. So query why he was rested midway through the 4th when he was turning the game back to Newcastle?
Aside from Defoe, Eagles looked sub-par, defensively disorganised & often offensively tentative. Even Fletch struggling but not surprising because he is having to do it all with little creative support from anyone else (perhaps Corey Johnson excepted). Person contributed nothing & made critical errors including the last minute turnover straight out of a TO - if he isn’t scoring he isn’t adding much. Ditto Kyle Williams apart from a 2 minute teaser. The comparison with Edwards last year is startling, and Matt Scott’s injury may be the deciding point of their season.
And Sheffield were terrific across the board, particularly the guards. Who wouldn’t have Rodney Glasgow Jr on their team on that showing?
Lots of work for the Eagles, and the possibility (given the Trophy draw) that their only route to silverware may be another unlikely tilt at the play-offs unless there’s a rapid turnaround (London up next).

As an aside last night also showed how much Eagles miss Rex Pleugler from last year - a player whose stats belied an often impressive all-round contribution including tenacious defence.”

Interesting that there are a number of quality British players now in the BBL and were obviously available last summer. The feeling is that Eagles didn't replace last seasons team with either better players or at least players of comparable ability, wonder if they weren't interested in some of the British players? Unless the British players didn't fancy Eagles?

I think Sayers, Johnson, Kyle Williams, Defoe and Johnson Thompson as 9th man is a perfectly good British core.

Just rewatched the Sky coverage. Forgot how long it took some of the players to realise that the refs weren't going to call a charge last night. Was nice to see, can't stand seeing the defensive player rewarded for that. Would be nice if it's going to be called consistently like that across the whole league, something tells me that's wishful thinking though.

I wondered if it’s a TV game the ref crew had pre game decided no charges were going to be called, instead they just seemed to regard each one as flopping, it’s totally fine but they need to be consistent as it’s not what you see week in week in the bbl

Both commentators made the point that Eagles had quite a lay-off before this game which doesn't always help teams, except to rest and recover from injuries. They were making errors that aren't typical of Eagles and that may have been down to lack of competitive games recently. I prefer Riders to play regularly because then we are usually sharp and on-message with each other's intentions.

Exactly my concern in my first post - we'll find out a lot more against Vince's cheque book team next Friday.....
